About Sketching & Drawing Courses
Why We Do What We Do
For us, sketching is a way to find sukoon (calm). I see drawing as more than a skill - it's a break from daily rush, a way to focus, and sometimes, just to breathe a bit easier. If you’ve ever wanted a quiet corner to just create, that’s what our classes give you.
How We Teach
- We stick to basics first: perspective, light and shadow, solid strokes. No shortcuts, sorry!
- You get to watch techniques as they happen, then try it yourself with step-by-step help.
- Even with groups, I keep it personal. If you get stuck or frustrated, I notice and help work through it.
What You Can Learn
- Foundation pencil drawing lessons: Perfect for beginners, covering observation and sketching anything from birds to landscapes.
- Charcoal portrait techniques: For those pushing ahead - we tackle life and expression through portraits over several months.
- Figure drawing for beginners: Dive into anatomy, movement, and character design.
- Color pencil drawing: If you want to add color, this is a focused two-three month journey.
Where and When
- Classes happen in our peaceful Jayanagar studio - wooden desks, lots of quiet, feels a bit like home.
- Sundays, we sometimes go outdoors for plein air sketching sessions in spots like Cubbon Park.
- Timings are flexible - you’ll find both weekday and weekend art classes in Bangalore that can fit your routine.
No age bar, no pressure to be perfect. Just a chance to see what you can do when you give yourself the time to draw.

My Story
Folks ask, 'Why Pencil & Chai?' and we grin. Started in 2011, before outdoor art classes were cool in Bangalore. Our first lessons? Not fancy studios - just open sky, sketchbooks, chai, and artists who knew their stuff. Chai in one hand, pencil in the other. That vibe stuck. Now, we’ve got a studio, a Gurukul, but the heart’s the same. We’re here to keep Indian folk arts like Chittaara and Kalamkari alive. Step in, and you join our story.
My Work
Courses & Workshops - We teach pencil sketching, watercolor painting, acrylics, and Indian folk arts like Chittaara and Kalamkari.
Gurukul Style Learning - Real step-by-step teaching. Live demos, personal guidance. No shortcuts, just honest art.
Relaxed Art Sessions - No pressure. You learn at your own pace, find your own style. It’s about progress, not perfection.
Flexible Batches - Weekday or weekend, pick what suits you. Try a 2-day workshop if you’re not sure.
Preserving Heritage - We love Indian folk arts. Our mission: keep traditions like Chittaara alive, one brush stroke at a time.
