Saree to Lehenga Conversion in Thanisandra
Don't let your beautiful silk sarees sit in the cupboard. We transform them into custom lehenga sets that look brand new, with a focus on neat stitching and perfect fits.
This entire lehenga and blouse set was stitched from a single silk saree. I used the body of the saree for the pleated skirt and the pallu for the puff-sleeve blouse.
Another example of a pattu saree converted into a lehenga. The blouse has a unique zigzag neckline, and the skirt is neatly pleated to show off the saree's original pattern.
This set was created from a printed saree. I designed a simple blouse with a contrasting border and a pleated skirt to create a fresh, new ethnic outfit.
A modern lehenga set made from a brocade saree. The crop top is simple, and the pleated skirt uses the saree's border at the bottom for a stylish look.
About this collection
The trick to converting a saree into a lehenga is getting the volume right. We add a hard net and taffeta lining layer so the skirt flares properly and stays in shape. We also carefully position the original saree border at the hemline, so the design stays intact. You bring the saree, and we ensure the cut fits your body perfectly.
Many customers have sarees with high-quality fabric that they no longer wear as drapes. Repurposing these into lehenga sets is a specialty at our boutique in Telecom Layout, Thanisandra.
Our Process
When you bring your saree, we first assess the material. Silk and georgette fabrics work best for conversions because they hold pleats well. We offer two main styles for the skirt:
- Pleated Cut: This keeps the traditional look of the saree intact and is great for silk sarees.
- Umbrella Cut: This provides more volume and flair, ideal if you want a modern, flowy look.
The Finishing Touches
We do not just stitch the skirt. We construct a custom crop top or blouse using the saree pallu or leftover fabric. We use premium lining throughout the set to protect the fabric and ensure comfort. Every lehenga includes a hard net layer (cancan) to create that bridal volume, and we finish the edges with matching dori piping. If the saree has a heavy border, we ensure it is placed at the hemline to serve as a design focal point. If you have specific ideas or old latkans you want to reuse, we can integrate those as well.
