Artist Development and Production Support in Bangalore
I spent years waiting for stages, so I built my own. Whether you are a student preparing for your first performance or an artist needing a professional space, I help bridge the gap between rehearsal and the real stage.
I am proud to direct and write for my students. In this video, I speak about "Mitra," a new work presented by my student Suvin Prasad, exploring an eternal love story and breaking societal norms through art.
The Katha Festival at The Punyah Theatre was a platform for several new works. This video compilation shows glimpses of productions like "Nimitta" by Navya Bhat and "Mitra" by Suvin Prasad, which I helped curate.
About this collection
I know how hard it is to move from a studio practice to a professional show. That is why my approach goes beyond just renting a space. I work with artists on the technical cues, lighting design, and audience engagement, ensuring that your production lands effectively, whether it is a small solo recital or a multi-day festival curation.
From Studio to Stage
Transitioning from rehearsals to a performance requires more than just talent. It requires a space that respects the art form and the infrastructure to support it. At The Punyah Theatre in Kalkere, I provide exactly that: an intimate black box studio designed for classical dance.
What I Offer
- Venue Hosting: My black box theatre is built for intimate performance, offering 60 to 80 seats, professional LED lighting, and sound systems designed for live music or playback. It is a plug-and-play setup for dancers who need a reliable, professional environment without the massive overhead of larger auditoriums.
- Festival Curation: I do not just host; I collaborate. From conceptualizing the program flow to managing ticketing on platforms like BookMyShow, I handle the operational heavy lifting so you can focus on the performance. I have curated festivals that combine solo recitals, lec-dems, and spontaneous workshops.
- Mentorship & Direction: For my students and peers, I offer direct artistic guidance—writing lyrics, directing productions like 'Mitra' and 'Neyam', and helping dancers refine their voice. If you have a concept but need help shaping the production or finding the right technical support, let's talk.
The Reality of Production
Real talk: producing art is messy. There is always a technical glitch or a sudden challenge. But that is part of the process. My team and I take care of the housekeeping, the ticketing, and the stage management, so your focus remains entirely on the fire you are bringing to the stage.
Parshwanath Upadhye
I do not believe in waiting for someone else to open the door. I built The Punyah Theatre to be a space where artists can experiment and grow, without the gatekeeping that plagues the mainstream scene. If you are ready to perform, I am here to help you make it happen.
