A full house for our Intro to 3D Printing workshop! It's always exciting to see a room full of people learning to bring their digital designs into the physical world for the first time.
We had a great turnout for our first 3D printing workshop. Participants learned how to design their own keychains from scratch and watched them get printed right here in the lab.
Here’s a step by step guide on how we turn a simple calligraphy design into a 3D printed keychain. This video covers the entire workflow, from design software to the final print.
Our 3D printed cookie cutter workshop is always a hit. You can design any shape you can imagine, print it, and then go home and bake some truly unique cookies.

About this collection
You do not need an engineering degree to start. We guide you through everything, from sketching your initial design on free software to calibrating the printer. The most important thing is to bring your own laptop and a mouse—we provide the PLA filament, the machines, and the expert guidance to make sure your first print actually works.
How Our 3D Printing Sessions Work
We strip away the intimidating tech jargon and focus on the joy of creating something physical from a digital file. Our workshops are designed to get you comfortable with the entire workflow:
- Design: We use open-source tools like TinkerCAD, which makes 3D modeling accessible even if you have never used CAD software before.
- Operation: You learn how the machines function, how to prep your file, and what settings matter most.
- Output: Whether it is a custom cookie cutter, a personalized keychain, or jewelry, you get to witness your design materialize.
Why Build at Paper Crane Lab?
It is not just about the final object. Our Indiranagar lab is a space built for tinkering. We keep our batches small—typically 6 to 10 participants—to ensure you get enough facetime with our facilitators. This ensures that when a print fails (which is part of the learning process!), you understand how to troubleshoot it rather than just giving up.
Practical Details
- BYOD Mandatory: Please bring your own laptop and a mouse. It is much easier to design with a trackpad, but a mouse gives you better precision for 3D modeling.
- Post-Processing: Sometimes, prints take time. If your project is complex, we may print it after the workshop and have it ready for you to pick up within a few days.
- Age Group: These sessions are beginner-friendly and open to anyone aged 14 and above.
If you are ready to stop watching tutorials and start making, check our calendar for the next available slot.
Paper Crane Lab
We are a bunch of curious tinkerers who love making tech approachable and fun. At Paper Crane Lab, we are less about dusty theory and more about getting our hands dirty, messing up, and learning how things are built.
