The Art of the Accessory: Finishing Touches for Your Suit

Most men focus entirely on the jacket and forget the smaller pieces, but those details are where your personality really shows. At my Defence Colony studio, I treat accessories like buttons and pocket squares with the same intensity as a full sherwani, because these small touches are what people notice when they are standing right next to you.

You have likely noticed that a solid-tone suit can feel a bit plain on its own. That is where accessories come in. I do not believe in mass-produced additions that look like everything else you see in the market.

My approach is to find items that actually add depth to your look. For instance, I source antique coins, like the 1 Anna pieces, and turn them into functional buttons for my bandhgalas. It is a small detail, but it changes the entire feel of the garment.

Then there are the pocket squares. We use fine silk, often hand-printed, because the way light hits silk is completely different from a standard cotton square. When you visit the studio, we don't just pick items from a shelf. We lay them out against the fabric of your jacket or sherwani so you can see how the colours play off each other. It is about balance. You want to add personality without making it look like you are trying too hard.
