Raider Skill Training: Master Pro Kabaddi Techniques
Raiding is about speed, timing, and reading the defense. At my academy in Gurugram, I coach you on the footwork and tactical decisions that turn a good player into a match-winner.
Here is a kick practice drill on the sand court. The key is to execute the kick with speed and then escape towards the center line even faster. Your exit speed must be double your movement speed to avoid the cover defenders.
This is the shoulder jark escape, a move that requires explosive power from the lower body. We practice this drill to help raiders break free from a defender's hold. The more force you generate from your legs, the more effective the escape.
This drill focuses on escaping after scoring a bonus point. On the mat, speed is critical. A raider must move in, take the bonus, and get out before the cover can close in.
This is part two of my hand touch explanation. I am showing the player how to judge the distance to the cover defender in just two steps. Perfecting this footwork is key to executing a successful running hand touch.
Explaining the basics of a cover hand touch, part one. It is important to watch the defender's body language and position, not just attack blindly. You need to see which part of their body is forward and where their hands are to plan your touch.
When executing a hand touch, a raider needs to know how to extend their body and keep it loose to maximize reach. Every touch, whether high or low, must be clean and decisive.
Practice for the cover hand touch on the mat. Repetition is key to building muscle memory so that the movement becomes second nature during a high-pressure match.
A clip of our academy raider, Lalit, executing a perfect toe touch to score a point in a local tournament. This is what happens when practice meets performance.
I am explaining the 'fake bonus' skill. This is a smart move to trick a defender who is expecting a bonus attempt. By faking the bonus, you draw the defender in for an easy touch point.
The toe touch is one of the most important skills for a raider. It can be used in any situation, against any number of defenders. Here, I am demonstrating the correct technique and footwork for a successful toe touch.
About Raider Skill Development
Raiding is not just about raw speed; it is about reading the cover defender's body language before you strike. In my sessions, I teach you to analyze the distance and defender's hand position in split-seconds, ensuring that when you execute a running hand touch, your escape path is already calculated.
A raider's job is to score points under pressure, and that requires more than talent. It takes repetition. At my academy, we start by fixing your footwork, whether it is a toe touch or a running bonus attempt. I break down every move into two-step patterns so you understand exactly when to attack and when to pull back.
We train on both sand and mat surfaces because a true raider must adapt to the conditions. You will practice the 'fake bonus' to trick your marker, and learn how to use the defender's own momentum against them when escaping a cover block.
Remember, there is no shortcut to the Pro Kabaddi League. You will work on your explosive power in the morning and refine your tactical decision-making in the evening. I do not just teach you how to touch a defender; I teach you how to anticipate their ankle hold before they even move. If you are ready for the grind, you will find the platform here.
