Beginner Bouldering Workshops
New to the wall? Our workshops are designed to get you climbing with confidence. We teach safety, technique, and movement in a supportive, judgment-free space.
Every workshop starts with a briefing from our experienced instructors. Here, a group of new climbers learns about the day's goals and basic safety before hitting the walls.
This video montage captures the dynamic and encouraging atmosphere of our "Basics of Indoor Bouldering" workshop. You'll see participants learning, trying new routes, and having a great time.
Getting the right gear is your first step. An instructor explains the importance of proper climbing shoes, which are crucial for grip and effective footwork on the bouldering wall.
A participant in our workshop applies what she's learned, reaching for a hold on our colorful climbing wall. We focus on building confidence one move at a time.
Even beginners get to tackle interesting challenges like this slight overhang. Our route setters design problems that are accessible but help you develop real climbing skills from day one.
A climber practices body tension and foot placement during a workshop. Learning these core principles early is key to climbing efficiently and preventing injury.

We host special events like ladies-only climbing nights to provide a comfortable and supported environment for women to try bouldering for the first time.

About Beginner Bouldering Workshops
We don't just point you at a wall and hope for the best. In our workshops, we drill the 'Quiet Feet' technique and proper falling safety immediately. You'll spend about two hours on guided instruction before moving to supervised free climbing, so you aren't just figuring it out on the fly. We provide the shoes and chalk, so you just need to show up ready to learn.
What to Expect
Starting a new sport can be intimidating, especially one that requires you to trust your own body weight. Our beginner workshops are built to strip away that anxiety. We break down the basics of bouldering, ensuring you know how to navigate our crash pads safely before you ever reach for the top hold.
The Technique First Approach
We prioritize technique because power without control leads to frustration. During the 120-180 minute session, we focus on:
- Movement Fundamentals: Learning weight transfer, 3-point contact, and body tension.
- Safe Falling: Mastering the art of hitting the pads correctly to prevent injury.
- Route Reading: Understanding how to interpret a route before you start climbing, saving energy and avoiding unnecessary mistakes.
Why Join Our Community?
Mud and Mettle is not just a gym; it's a family. When you sign up for a workshop, you aren't just buying a class; you're joining a group of people who are also learning, failing, and succeeding together. We keep our groups small to ensure you get personal form correction from our coaches. Whether you are looking for a new hobby, a way to build functional strength, or a break from the standard gym routine, our Jalahalli East studio is the place to start. Gear is included in the workshop price, so you can test the waters without investing in your own shoes immediately.
