Integrating Yoga and Kalaripayattu for Mindful Strength
I blend the structured stillness of Yoga Asana with the dynamic flow of Kalaripayattu. This fusion builds functional strength and energetic awareness, helping you move with intention whether you are on the mat or in your daily life.
Our combined Asana and Kalari sessions are designed to create a balance between stability and movement. The yoga portion, which includes poses like this forward bend, helps prepare your body for the more dynamic martial arts practice.
A strong foundation in yoga is key to advancing your movement practice. Here, I demonstrate exercises to build strength for Chaturanga Dandasana, a core pose in Vinyasa. This foundational strength is essential for supporting the powerful movements we explore in Kalaripayattu.
We offer a structured program that integrates both disciplines. I lead the Asana sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Carolina Prada teaches Kalari on Saturdays. This allows you to build a consistent and well rounded practice, whether you join us online or in person.
About Fusing Yoga and Kalari
We often get stuck in linear movement patterns. In our sessions, we introduce foundational footwork known as Chuvadukal that challenges your balance and forces you to engage the supporting muscles you rarely use in standard Vinyasa. This is not about fighting; it is about learning how to use your own body weight to build stability and ground your breath in every motion.
Why Combine Two Disciplines?
Many practitioners reach a plateau where they have mastered the pose, but lack the vitality to move through it with grace. By layering Kalaripayattu—one of the world's oldest martial arts—on top of our Vinyasa Krama and Hatha practice, we address this gap.
We focus on:
- Functional Mobility: Traditional animal postures (Vadivu) that open the hips and shoulders far more effectively than static stretching.
- Breath Integration: Using Pranayama not just as a cooling technique, but as the engine that powers your martial flow.
- Structural Alignment: Ensuring that the strength you build is safe, sustainable, and tailored to your body's specific needs.
How We Work
Whether you join us in-person at our Vasant Vihar studio in Delhi or through our hybrid online batches, the approach remains consistent. I lead the Asana segments on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Carolina Prada, a specialist trained at Kalarigram, leads the Kalari conditioning on Saturdays.
We deliberately keep our batches small. You will not be lost in a sea of screens; we require cameras to be on because my priority is your alignment. If your Chaturanga is lacking that essential pressing-down action, I want to see it and help you correct it. This isn't a passive viewing experience—it is a training ground for your nervous system and your physical structure.
