About In The Spotlight: Concerts & Live Performances
When planning for a live concert, the sound is as much a part of the performance as the technique. For my fusion or ensemble acts, I coordinate with your venue's technical team to balance the sitar against Western instruments. Whether you need a subtle, meditative backdrop or a high-energy centerpiece, we align on the PA requirements and stage setup beforehand to ensure the music flows exactly as envisioned.
A live performance is a conversation between the artist and the audience. Whether I am performing a solo Indian classical concert or leading a full six-piece fusion ensemble, my focus is always on creating an atmosphere that suits your specific event.
My Performance Styles
- Classical & Devotional: These performances focus on the soul of the raga. They are ideal for mehfils, cultural gatherings, and temple events where the music needs to be authentic, meditative, and respectful of the tradition.
- Fusion & Concert Acts: For corporate galas, product launches, or large celebrations, I offer a blend of tradition and modernity. I reimagine Western hits—from pop to rock—on the sitar, backed by tabla, drums, and keyboard. This is a high-energy act designed to be the main attraction.
Logistical Details for Hosts
I treat my performances with the same care as my practice sessions. When you book me for a concert, we will discuss the stage dimensions, sound output requirements, and the mood you want to set. For my larger fusion acts, I bring a dedicated sound engineer to handle live mixing, as balancing the intricate frequencies of a sitar with electric instruments requires precision. If you are hosting a smaller, intimate gathering, a simple professional PA system and a quiet, raised stage area are usually all that is needed to ensure the audience hears every note clearly. I am based in Mumbai and Delhi, but I regularly travel across India and internationally to perform at festivals and private events.
Mehtab Ali Niazi
I am Mehtab Ali Niazi. For me, the sitar is an extension of my voice—an instrument meant to connect and offer something deeper than just sound. Whether I am playing a quiet raga or leading a full fusion ensemble, my goal is to make the moment feel truly alive for everyone listening.
