A glimpse into my world of dance—where clinical precision meets emotional storytelling. Whether you are seeking rigorous training or performance insights, explore the rhythm and discipline I bring to every step.

This is the essence of Bharatanatyam. A moment of stillness and perfect balance in the Aramandi posture, capturing the geometry and grace that we strive for in every movement. This is the foundation upon which all expression is built.

After a long day at the hospital, returning to the studio is like coming home. This video shows a practice session where I reconnect with my roots through basic adavus and the Kali Kauthuvam. It’s a reminder that no matter how busy life gets, dance keeps me grounded and centered.

Abhinaya, or the art of expression, is the soul of dance. Here, I explore seven different emotions while calling out to Krishna, set to the beautiful melody of 'Krishna Nee Begane Baro'. My workshops focus deeply on helping you connect with and convey these nuanced feelings.

Dancing with my Amma and Acharya, Smt. Indira Kadambi, is always special. In this clip, we are practicing fundamental adavus together. This focus on getting the basics right is the cornerstone of my teaching, ensuring every student builds a strong and precise technical foundation.

A performance is a conversation with the audience, filled with stories and emotions. This clip from a Thodi Varnam shows the expressive storytelling, or abhinaya, used to portray devotion and longing. It is this depth of feeling that I encourage my students to explore in their own dance.

People often ask how I manage being both a doctor and a dancer. In this clip, I share my perspective on how these two demanding professions enrich each other. The discipline of medicine informs my dance practice, while the empathy from dance makes me a better doctor.

Teaching is about sharing the joy of art with the next generation. Here I am, conducting a Bharatanatyam workshop for school children. It is a humbling experience to introduce young minds to the beauty of our classical traditions.

About Featured

I bring my experience as a pathologist into the studio, which means every session focuses on anatomically safe conditioning and technical precision. We don't just learn steps; we build the core strength needed for the Aramandi posture and subtle Abhinaya, ensuring your dance is as disciplined as it is expressive.

Building a Strong Foundation

Teaching isn't just about showing moves. It is about understanding the mechanics of the body. My classes in HSR Layout emphasize the Ambalam Arts pedagogy, focusing on structural purity. We start with the basics—Adavus (footwork) and Hastas (hand mudras)—because without a solid technical foundation, the grace and storytelling of Bharatanatyam cannot truly shine.

The Doctor-Dancer Balance

People often ask how I manage hospital shifts alongside rehearsals. The truth is, they inform one another. The clinical discipline I use for biopsies helps me maintain neat lines and perfect finishes in my dance. Conversely, the emotional depth of Abhinaya helps me stay empathetic and connected in my medical practice. This perspective helps my students approach their practice with a mindset of longevity and sustainability, rather than just physical performance.

My Teaching Philosophy

  • Precision-Focused: We limit batch sizes to 12 students to ensure I can provide individual, timestamped corrections on your posture and expression.
  • Abhinaya Workshops: We move beyond the steps to explore the 'why' behind the movement, diving into Sahityam (lyrics) and mythology to bring real emotion to your performance.
  • Accessible Training: Whether you are in Bengaluru or looking for online 1-on-1 mentorship, I provide practice videos and audio aids so you can continue your riyaaz (practice) even on busy days.

If you are a working professional or a student looking to start or deepen your Bharatanatyam journey, I invite you to join my studio. We work hard, we sweat, and we find our rhythm together.

I’m Dr. Ramya, and I live between the hospital and the studio. For me, dance is about going back to the basics and finding stillness, which is why my teaching style is honest, rigorous, and deeply rooted in the lineage of my gurus.
