About On Set & Behind the Scenes

Costume design is more than choosing clothes. It is about holding the vision together when things get chaotic on set. My process starts with deep collaboration with the director to ensure every garment helps tell the character story, but the real work happens in the trenches. I manage continuity, handle last-minute wardrobe malfunctions, and keep the team energized through long night shifts.

The Art of Film Styling

Styling for a camera is a specific skill. It is not just about what looks good in a mirror. It is about how fabric moves on screen, how it handles harsh studio lighting, and how it holds up over a 16-hour day. When I work on projects like 'Mr. & Mrs. Mahi' or 'Nadaaniyan', my focus is on wardrobe continuity and character building.

My Process

  1. Visual Research: I begin by breaking down the script and understanding the director vision. We discuss the arc of the character so the clothes evolve naturally.

  2. Sourcing: Whether it is high-end couture or vintage finds, I source pieces that feel authentic to the character.

  3. The Trial: We do rigorous fittings. We check if the actor can run, jump, or sit comfortably in the outfit.

  4. On-Set Management: My job does not end when the cameras roll. I am on set to manage steam ironing, quick fixes, and continuity between takes.

Why This Matters

A well-styled character makes the story believable. If the wardrobe feels fake, the audience disconnects. I pride myself on being the person who ensures the actors feel confident and the director is happy with the visual narrative.
