I ditched the 'no pain, no gain' mindset to create something better. Here is how I teach Pilates—focusing on feeling strong and connected, not just burning calories.

Here are three things I would tell anyone starting their fitness journey. It’s about giving your body time, exploring different movements to find what you love, and understanding that fitness is a holistic journey that includes rest, nutrition, and mental health.

This is the introduction to a series on tracking progress beyond before and after photos. My philosophy is about viewing your fitness journey through a lens of compassion and focusing on how you feel, not just how you look.

The first step is challenging your mindset. Progress isn't just about the scale or how your clothes fit; it's about increased energy, better mental health, and a more resilient body.

Let's think about how your workouts pour into other areas of your life. Better posture, fewer aches, and a stronger connection to your body are all incredible forms of progress that we often overlook.

It's so important to understand that resting doesn't mean doing nothing. Recovery, sleep, and gentle movement are when your body actually gets stronger. You are not a machine, and you deserve to rest.

Finding play outside your comfort zone is key. Trying new formats like yoga or dance to complement your Pilates practice creates new neural pathways and helps you see tangible results sooner.

It's easy to feel like you're "falling off the wagon." This series is about why approaching your fitness journey with patience is the key to long-term success and enjoyment.

Reason number one is patience with setting realistic expectations. Being honest about your schedule and capacity is the first step to creating a routine you can actually stick with.

Reason number two is giving your body time to adjust. New habits take effort, and it's okay to have setbacks. The journey is about enjoying the process, not just rushing to the destination.

The third reason is viewing exercise as a lifelong accomplishment. The habits you build today are an investment in your future self, helping you stay pain-free and independent for years to come.

About My Approach to Mindful Movement

I don't use fitness as a punishment. In my sessions, we focus on cycle-synced workouts and form-first movement. Whether it's a mat session in Koramangala or a 1:1 coaching call, I always teach modifications so you can move according to your energy levels today, not how you think you should be feeling.
