A fight doesn't always end on your feet. At Thunder Martial Arts, we drill the ground game—from traditional Indian Kusti takedowns to modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu submissions—to ensure you can dominate anywhere.

A fast-paced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu takedown drill. Here I demonstrate an Uchi Mata throw, transitioning immediately to a dominant position on the ground.

"Pailwan" (Wrestler). This is traditional mud wrestling, or Kusti. We practice takedowns and throws in the akhara to build incredible grip strength and grappling power.

A BJJ training session. In the first part, students are drilling a ground technique while I supervise. In the second, I pose with two of my students in their Gi.

Demonstrating a takedown defense in a BJJ class. It's just as important to know how to stop a takedown as it is to execute one.

A demonstration of a rear-naked choke, one of the most effective submissions in MMA and BJJ. I teach the correct mechanics to finish the fight.

A dynamic wrestling scramble on the mats. Fighters learn to move and fight for position in these chaotic, high-energy drills.

A demonstration of a powerful double-leg takedown. We drill these wrestling fundamentals until they are second nature.

About this collection

Most gyms will teach you to punch and tell you you're fit. That is not what we do here. My grappling sessions are designed for one thing: control. You will drill wrestling takedowns, guard sweeps, and submissions until they are reflex. If you think you know how to fight on the ground, come to the mat—let’s see your technique.

Building the Ground Game

When we talk about ground and pound, we aren't talking about rolling on mats for a workout. We are talking about fight geometry. Whether you are aiming for a double-leg takedown or working from a bottom position to sweep your opponent, you need to think. I teach my students to analyze their opponent’s movement—angles, leverage, and weight distribution.

Kusti to BJJ

We bridge the old and the new. We use the grit of traditional mud wrestling (Kusti) in the akhara to build raw grip strength and explosive power. We then apply that to modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi and No-Gi). You will learn:

  • Takedown Mechanics: Everything from single-legs to high-amplitude throws.
  • Guard Play: How to be dangerous even when you are on your back.
  • Submission Strategy: Finishing the fight with chokes and joint locks using proper leverage, not brute force.

The Reality of Sparring

Sparring is where the ego dies. We conduct intense, supervised sessions where you test your moves against a resisting opponent. I provide live correction—if your posture is wrong, you will get swept. If your grip is weak, you will lose the position. This is how we build fighters, not gym-goers.

We are based in Vidyaranyapura, and we train for tournaments—state, national, and international. If you are serious about winning, show up ready to work.
