Finding festive decor that feels personal is rare. I hand-carve and paint these holiday pieces in my Bengaluru studio to bring warmth to your celebrations, whether it is a candle holder for your table or a unique ornament for your tree.

A forest of my handmade ceramic Christmas tree candle holders. I offer them in different styles and glazes, from leafy green coniferous trees to whimsical, perforated designs.

My Coniferous Christmas tree candle holder is designed to be multifunctional. You can place a candle inside for a warm glow or use it as an incense burner.

This set of three Coniferous Christmas tree luminaries comes in varying heights, perfect for creating a festive centerpiece on your holiday table.

Here you can see the Coniferous tree being used as a backflow incense burner, with smoke gently cascading down its sides. It's a piece that engages multiple senses.

My Winter Wonderland Christmas tree luminaries feature a unique tiered shape and are perforated by hand. The glaze gives them a beautiful, rustic blue-green finish.

This view shows how a candle fits perfectly into the base of the Winter Wonderland luminary. It's a simple, two-piece design that is easy to use.

About Festive Collections: Handmade Holiday Joy

I create each candle holder and bauble in small batches, using a technique called sgraffito to carve festive patterns while the clay is leather-hard. This is not just decoration. My Coniferous tree holders are designed to be multifunctional; you can use them as a cozy candle light for your centerpiece, or flip the base to use them as an incense burner for quiet, slow evenings at home.

When I started Maati Sona in 2018, I wanted to move away from mass-produced holiday decor. The festive season is about slowing down, and I believe your home decor should reflect that. My festive collection focuses on small-batch pieces that you can keep and reuse for years, rather than plastic items that clutter up storage.

My Festive Techniques

  • Sgraffito Carving: For my holiday baubles and ornaments, I use a sgraffito technique. I paint a layer of coloured slip over the clay and then carve back into it to reveal the natural clay body beneath. This gives a distinct, rustic texture that mass-produced paints simply cannot match.
  • Functional Decor: My Christmas tree luminaries are intentionally designed to serve two purposes. They are wheel-thrown in sections, perforated by hand to let light escape, and finished with deep, glossy glazes. You can light them up on your dining table during a festive dinner, or use them as incense burners when you want to unwind.

Care and Quality

Everything is made with high-fired stoneware. This means these pieces are durable and resistant to chips. Whether you are buying a set of ornaments for your tree or a statement luminary, you are getting something that feels heavy, solid, and authentically handmade in my Bengaluru studio.

I do not aim for factory-perfect symmetry. If you look closely at my tree luminaries or hand-painted baubles, you will see slight variations in the holes, the glaze drips, and the brushstrokes. That is the soul of pottery. These pieces are meant to be handled, loved, and passed down as part of your family’s festive traditions.
