Yoga Poses for Strength and Flexibility
True strength isn't just about muscles. It's about building a body that is steady and a mind that is at ease, no matter your starting point.
Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana, or Extended Hand-To-Big-Toe Pose, is a powerful expression of balance and focus. Practiced outdoors, it deepens our connection to the earth, reminding us that as our vision is, so our world becomes.
A deep side-body stretch that releases tension and prepares the body for the week ahead. This pose targets the obliques and hips, creating a sense of mindful release and balance.
Baddha Uttanasana, or Bound Forward Fold, is a deep stretch for the hamstrings and shoulders. It teaches us that true strength is being strong enough to be gentle with ourselves.
A variation of Dandayamana Janu Sirsasana, or Standing Head-to-Knee Pose. This posture is a prayer in motion, stretching the ego as much as the body and cultivating deep awareness.
Anjaneyasana, or Low Lunge, with a heart-opening backbend. This pose stretches the hip flexors and quadriceps while inviting the energy of abundance and balance into our practice.
A wall-assisted handstand variation, building core strength and confidence with inversions. This pose embodies the philosophy of 'effortless action,' letting the breath lead and the body follow.
From the rush of a run to the stillness of a stretch. This standing side bend is a perfect example of how movement meets mindfulness, creating a balance between dynamic energy and quiet release.
A challenging balancing pose, Baddha Garudasana (Bound Eagle Pose), that requires deep focus and stability. It is a physical manifestation of the Bhagavad Gita's wisdom: yoga is the journey of the self, to the self.
Ustrasana (Camel Pose) variation, a deep backbend that opens the heart and stretches the entire front of the body. This pose embodies 'Tapas,' the inner fire of discipline that keeps us consistent on the mat.
Parivrtta Parsvakonasana, or Revolved Side Angle Pose, is a deep twist that detoxifies the organs and challenges our balance. It's a reminder to detach from the outcome and anchor into the action itself.
About The Asana Gallery: Poses for Strength & Flexibility
If you think you are too stiff to start, that is exactly why you should be here. In my classes, we use props like blocks and straps not as cheats, but as bridges to help you find your unique alignment. My focus is on 'Sthira Sukham Asanam'—finding steadiness and comfort in every posture—ensuring you build functional strength that you can actually sustain.
Yoga is not about bending yourself into a shape you see on the internet. It is about learning to move with awareness, using your breath as a guide to unlock tightness in the hips, shoulders, and spine.
My Approach to Asanas
In my studio, we move slowly and intentionally. Whether we are practicing Hatha for deep, stable holds or Vinyasa to build heat and endurance, the goal is always the same: to stop racing through the movement and start feeling it.
We focus on:
- Alignment over depth: It matters less how far you reach and more how your body is positioned to keep you safe and energized.
- Breath-led movement: When the breath is steady, the nervous system calms down. This allows you to go deeper into a stretch than you could by forcing it.
- Prop-supported practice: Blocks, straps, and wheels are tools for independence. They allow you to practice safely even if you are recovering from an injury or just starting your journey.
Strength for Daily Life
Functional strength is about more than just looking fit. It is about having a body that supports you throughout your day. Through regular practice, you will notice improved posture, reduced stiffness from long hours at your desk, and a greater sense of balance in your daily life.
We cap our group batches at 8-12 students. This keeps the environment quiet and focused, and it allows me to provide manual adjustments and feedback so you aren't just following the crowd, but actually learning the practice.
Komal Sodhi
I’m Komal. After 17 years in Gurgaon, I’ve learned that the true measure of a yoga practice isn't how deep you fold, but how well you breathe through the challenge. My studio is a space to move past the ego, find your inner fire, and simply show up for yourself.
