During the 2023 Delhi floods, we hit the ground running. From drone-assisted animal rescues in Mayur Vihar to feeding drives for displaced dogs and cows, our team works where others look away.

We used every tool available to find stranded animals. Thanks to our partners, we scanned the Mayur Vihar Pushta area with a drone for over two hours. We spotted two cows who were then rescued. We leave no stone unturned to ensure no one is left behind.

This is teamwork. We joined brave volunteers from other organizations, wading through chest deep water and using boats to reach areas where dogs and cows were trapped. We went in to free tied up cows and bring dogs to higher ground.

The floods bring injuries and sickness. Here, our ambulance is shifting three injured dogs we rescued from the Mayur Vihar flood zone to our trusted vet in GK1 for immediate medical attention. Our emergency animal ambulance is always ready.

A glimpse into our Mayur Vihar flood feeding drive. The water was still high, and the dogs were hungry. We give them cooked rice because they refuse to eat dry food in these stressful conditions. I even had to be the driver for the day because we were so short on staff.

Night feeding during the floods in a sealed off area of Mayur Vihar. These dogs were stuck on the road, and our team member Harish bhaiya was helping with a broken hand. We do whatever it takes.

It was pouring rain last night, but that doesn't stop us. All the flood plain dogs got their meal. We are out there no matter the weather, because they are depending on us.

We found this new mother and her tiny puppies at the DND Mayur Vihar Toll Plaza during the floods. We made sure they had food and were safe from the receding waters before continuing our feeding drive for the other dogs and cows in the area.

With hope they wait. This is the scene every day during our flood feeding drives. These dogs know we are coming, and they wait patiently for their one proper meal of the day. Their trust keeps us going.

Our feeding car at another point, surrounded by dogs and desi cows who have all moved to higher ground. We are giving them cooked rice because they are not eating dry food at all. It's a massive effort with multiple cars and volunteers.

At this DND flood feeding spot, we have to be careful as the dogs are near the highway barrier. We give them cooked rice and also keep an eye out for any new or injured animals that people point out to us.

About On The Ground: Delhi Flood Response

When the floods hit, we didn't just watch—we became the drivers, the boatmen, and the feeders. We realized quickly that these animals won't touch dry kibble in a crisis, so we shifted entirely to fresh, hot cooked rice and chicken. If you see us out there, know that we are not just handing out food; we are actively searching for strays cut off by rising waters and getting them to safety.
