Dignity for the animals we couldn't save
We fight for every life on the streets of Delhi, but sometimes we are too late. This is our tribute to the brave souls who left us, ensuring they are remembered with the respect they deserved.
"Zinda tha kisi ne madad nai ki, Marne pe kafan daal diya." (When he was alive, no one helped. After he died, they covered him with a shroud.) We are sorry we couldn't save you, little one. By the time we heard about you, you were already gone.
This dog was the victim of a hit and run. We were informed and sent our ambulance immediately, but he passed away. As rescuers, we deal with a lot of grief, but we give them a dignified farewell and pick up our broken hearts to save the next one.
About Remembering the Ones We Lost
When you see an animal suffering on the Delhi streets, the clock starts ticking. Often, we reach cases where it is simply too late to reverse the damage caused by hit-and-run accidents or cruelty. Our team steps in not to perform miracles, but to provide a dignified end for those who spent their lives being ignored by the system. If you spot a critical case, call us immediately—every minute counts in preventing these tragic outcomes.
We deal with a lot of grief as rescuers. It is easy to look at the photos of these dogs and feel despair, but for us, this is fuel for our movement. Each of these animals had a name, a territory, and a life that mattered. When we are called to a case that has already turned fatal, our work shifts from emergency rescue to ensuring a dignified farewell.
This isn't just about sentiment. It is about accountability. Every hit-and-run, every case of starvation, and every instance of abuse is a failure of our community. We document these incidents because they are proof of the systemic apathy on our roads.
Our process for these tragic cases includes:
- Dignified Handling: We ensure the remains are treated with respect, avoiding the neglect often seen with street animals.
- Evidence Collection: We document the cause of death—whether it is a vehicle impact or deliberate cruelty—to support our legal advocacy and police complaints.
- Closure for Feeders: We provide updates to the local caretakers who were feeding the animal, as they are often the ones who suffer the most when their 'bachhe' (kids) don't make it.
We know the apathy in Delhi is real. But we refuse to let these animals die as if they never existed. If you want to join a movement that truly fights for these lives—even when the outcome is heartbreaking—reach out to us. We need more hands on the ground.
