Handmade & Analog Art Workshops
Welcome to Kānike. We are a space for analog art where we slow down, get our hands dirty, and co-create together. Here is a glimpse of the workshops that bring our Cooke Town community to life.
This is the heart of our botanical ink workshop. A participant carefully paints with colors they helped create, extracted directly from flowers and natural materials. It’s a magical process of turning nature into art, one brushstroke at a time.
An example of the beautiful, atmospheric art you can create in our cyanotype workshops. This piece, a misty path through the trees, shows the rich tonal range and poetic quality of sun printing, an alternative photography process we love to teach.
A look inside our cozy studio during a botanical ink making session. We keep our groups small and intimate, creating a friendly space where everyone can focus, learn from practicing artists, and share a laugh over lemon chai.
The beauty of handmade leathercraft. This wallet, with its intricate stitching and custom-printed interior, is an example of what you can learn to create. Our workshops guide you through the entire process, from cutting the leather to the final stitch.
The satisfying process of building a book by hand. Here, a participant measures and cuts materials for a custom journal. Our bookbinding workshops cover everything you need to know to create your own unique notebooks from scratch.
Getting hands-on with clay in our ear sculpting workshop. This close-up shows the tactile process of shaping and forming the clay, a fundamental skill in pottery and hand-building that is both meditative and rewarding.
A poster for our woodcut printmaking workshop, "From Blocks to Expressions." This class takes you on a journey of carving, inking, and printing, allowing you to create bold, expressive art with your own two hands.
A glimpse into our analog sanctuary, the darkroom. This is where the magic of historical photographic processes comes to life, from developing film to making Vandyke brown prints under the soft red glow of the safelight.
Our community of creators taking a break during an off-site photography workshop in Kolar. We believe art is best enjoyed together, and our programs are designed to connect people who share a passion for making and exploring.
The ethereal beauty of a cyanotype print capturing sunbeams filtering through a forest canopy. This piece showcases the delicate and detailed results possible with this historic sun-printing technique, a favorite at our studio.
About Featured
Every workshop we host is kept to a small group of six to eight people. This ensures you get personal attention from our practicing artists while we take a breather over lemon chai and biscuits. You do not need to be a pro to join. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to make a bit of a mess with clay, ink, or leather.
At Kānike, we believe art is a gift to be shared. This collection offers a window into the varied worlds we explore in our studio, from the meditative precision of bookbinding to the messy, joyful unpredictability of clay sculpting.
Our approach is simple. We strip away the digital noise and return to basics. Whether you are extracting pigment from flower petals in our botanical ink sessions, carving woodblocks for prints, or building a journal from scratch, the process is as much about connection as it is about the final object.
We are based in Cooke Town, Bengaluru, and our doors are open to anyone willing to try something new. We provide all the materials and guidance you need, so you can leave your tools and supplies at home. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to engage with traditional mediums like cyanotype, natural dyeing, and leathercraft in a way that feels personal, accessible, and human.
If you have ever wanted to spend a day or a few hours working with your hands, come by. We are here to help you slow down and make something real.
Kānike Studio
We started Kānike in 2019 as a gift to the community—a space to celebrate the analog, the handmade, and the quirks of art-making. We are artists who love ink, wood, and darkrooms, and we love sharing that joy with anyone who walks through our doors. Come by for a session and become part of our growing community of makers.
