About this collection

The magic of Kathakali lies in the meticulous preparation that happens long before the stage lights go up. Our artists dedicate three to four hours just for the intricate Bannagarike (makeup application) and dressing in traditional regalia, ensuring that every character you see is an authentic representation of the art form rather than a simplified costume.

An Authentic Cultural Experience

Kathakali is more than a performance; it is a complex narrative tradition from Kerala that combines storytelling, music, and dance. When you host a Kathakali performance at your event, you are providing guests with a direct link to ancient epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. We provide the full experience, complete with live percussion (Chende and Maddale) and no recorded background tracks.

What Goes into the Performance

We believe in presenting the real thing. Our 45-60 minute performances include:

  • Intricate Makeup: We use traditional techniques that take hours to apply, ensuring the iconic green, red, and black facial patterns are perfect.
  • Live Music: The rhythm is driven by live vocals and percussion, which respond dynamically to the dance, unlike recorded audio.
  • Narrative Context: We include a brief narration in English or Kannada to ensure your guests understand the story being told, followed by a photo session with the artists.

Practical Details for Hosts

Because this is a technically demanding art form, there are a few things to keep in mind for your venue:

  • Prep Space: We require private access to a room for at least three hours before the show for makeup application.
  • Staging: While we can adapt to most venues, a clear, well-lit stage area ensures the best visibility for the audience.
  • Suitability: This is perfect for weddings, corporate milestones, or cultural gatherings where you want a high-impact, conversation-starting centerpiece.
