Honnappa Gowda: From Kabaddi Legend to Dedicated Mentor
From the mud courts of my village to the Asian Games podium, my journey has been fueled by pure mehnat and discipline. See the milestones that shaped my life and how I now use that experience to train the next generation of players.
From representing Karnataka for the first time at the Sub-Junior Nationals to receiving the Arjuna Award, this shows the key milestones of my career. Each step was a dream turned into reality through dedication and a passion for Kabaddi.
A throwback to my playing days. As a raider, my focus was always on agility and outsmarting the defense. I use these experiences to teach offensive strategies that help players think two steps ahead of their opponents.
A proud moment for the 1998 Asian Games gold medal winning team, being felicitated by the legendary Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. I was the vice-captain of this team, and the experience taught me invaluable lessons in leadership.
About My Journey: From Player to Legend
True Kabaddi knowledge is born on the mud, not just in theory. When you train with me, we address the real challenges—from perfecting your hand support during a jump to understanding the psychology of a raider. If you are ready to put in the work, I will teach you the exact technical adjustments and the iron-clad discipline that helped me represent Bharat at the highest levels.
My career started with a dream on the mud courts near Yeshwantpur and eventually took me to the Asian Games, where I was proud to serve as vice-captain. Winning the Arjuna Award was not just a personal victory; it was proof that grit and a structured approach to the game pay off.
Why My Coaching is Different
I do not believe in coaching that focuses only on winning. Real Kabaddi is about character. Whether we are practicing defensive formations like the 7-man setup or refining your offensive toe-touch mechanics, the goal is to make you think two steps ahead of your opponent.
What We Work On
- Technical Mechanics: We break down the front charge and inside charge, ensuring your weight distribution is perfect. I teach you when to use your hands for support and how to adapt your game when moving from mud to synthetic mats.
- Mentorship: I share the leadership lessons I learned as a captain. This includes how to manage your aggression, keep your emotions in check under pressure, and be a positive influence on your team.
- Career Guidance: For those looking to go pro, I help identify talent markers that national selectors look for and provide a roadmap from club-level play to state representation.
My door is open to anyone with the right attitude. If you have the drive, I have the drills and the experience to help you find the champion within yourself.
