I teach kids how to use leverage and control rather than brute force. Through BJJ, we build foundational skills in a safe environment where technique always comes first.

This collage shows different moments from our kids' BJJ class. You can see me demonstrating a technique, students practicing with a partner, and the focus required to learn the art of grappling.

A key part of my teaching method is breaking down complex moves step by step. Here, the class watches closely as I demonstrate a ground control position on one of the students.

Our kids' BJJ team in their gis. The gi is a traditional uniform that we use as a tool for grips and control, adding another layer to their grappling education.

A proud moment with some of my students after a successful summer camp. It's great to see kids of all ages, along with adult practitioners, growing together on the mats.

This is a shot from one of my own no-gi BJJ training sessions. I am always a student of the art, constantly refining the same techniques I pass on to my students.

About Grappling Fundamentals: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

BJJ is about physics and leverage, not brute force. Whether at our Hosa Road facility or our HSR studio, I teach kids that control is the ultimate goal. We strip away the flashy moves and focus on the mechanics of ground positioning and escapes, ensuring every child understands how to manage their body safely under pressure. It is not a quick fix for discipline, but a systematic way to build real, lasting confidence.

People often ask if BJJ is too aggressive for children. The reality is that it is one of the safest martial arts because it is built on control. I teach kids to secure a dominant position, neutralize a threat, and resolve conflicts calmly without needing to strike.

Why the Fundamentals Matter

I don't believe in teaching 'hacks' or short-term tricks. Whether it is escaping a mount or practicing a simple guard pass, we drill these movements until they become muscle memory. This approach builds actual resilience. When a child learns how to escape a pin or maintain a position, they aren't just learning a sport; they are learning how to solve complex physical problems.

Training in Hosa Road vs. HSR Layout

We operate in two different environments to suit different needs:

  • Hosa Road: This is our core training space. It has a raw, garage-style setup with EVA foam mats and corrugated roofing. It is focused, intense, and perfect for getting down to the basics on weekends.
  • HSR Layout: For those looking for a different experience, we utilize professional studios with high-density tatami mats, proper lighting, and climate control. The curriculum remains identical, but the setting offers more comfort for weekday sessions.

The BJJ Journey

Martial arts is a process. My goal is to make sure that even after a tough session, your child leaves the mat having learned something new. It is about showing up, putting in the work, and understanding that progress is earned. Avvalothan.

I am Babu, and I believe the only shortcut to being stronger is showing up and doing the work. I bring my competition background into these classes to help kids learn discipline and focus. If you want a place where your child learns real technique instead of just playing games, this is where you start.
