Ground fighting is essentially physical chess. Whether you are learning takedowns or working on ground control, we keep it tactical, safe, and focused on technique rather than brute force.

This video shows a wrestling takedown drill at our HSR Layout gym. We practice how to transition from striking to grappling, secure a takedown, and establish a dominant position on the ground.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sequence showing how to pass the guard and move into a control position. Losing a position is part of learning; the important thing is to keep rolling and progressing.

Here, we are drilling a guard pass in a BJJ session. The student on top is working to get past the legs of the student on the bottom to improve their position. This is a common scenario in grappling.

An MMA ground-and-pound drill from our class in Hosa Road. Students learn how to control an opponent on the ground while practicing strikes, a key skill for mixed martial arts.

This drill shows the transition from striking to grappling. After a brief exchange on the feet, one student shoots for a takedown and works to control the other on the mat.

This video breaks down a defense to a heel hook, a common leg lock in grappling. We focus on technical details, like turning with the pressure, to ensure students can escape dangerous positions safely.

An afternoon BJJ sparring session. The quote from Renzo Gracie is something I truly believe in: your training partner is your best teacher, helping you learn and grow.

A close-up during a BJJ roll, showing the fight for hand control. These small battles for grips and position are often what decide the outcome of a grappling exchange.

About Grappling: BJJ & Wrestling

Forget the idea that you need to be a muscle-bound athlete to start grappling. Most of our sessions focus on BJJ and wrestling fundamentals—think leverage over strength—so even total beginners can learn how to control their opponent and work through submissions safely in our HSR and Electronic City studios.
