MMA & Wrestling Ground Control for Kids
Most people only look at the flashy punches, but the real fight is won on the ground. We teach our junior fighters how to control the space, stay safe, and build the confidence to dominate from the floor up.
Here you can see our junior fighters learning the basics of MMA wrestling. Under close supervision, they practice takedowns and ground control, building skills that are essential for a well-rounded martial artist.
About Ground Control: MMA & Wrestling Essentials
It isn't about aggression; it's about control. In these sessions, we focus entirely on technical wrestling drills and positional awareness on the mats. Your child learns how to safely manage a clinch or execute a takedown without reckless force, ensuring they understand the leverage and geometry of a real match before they ever try sparring.
Why Ground Control Matters
Many gyms focus only on striking, but a complete martial artist needs to be comfortable everywhere. Our ground control module is designed to help kids understand the 'why' behind every movement. Whether it is learning how to protect themselves in a clinch or maintaining top position during a grapple, we teach the discipline of the floor.
Building Physical Intelligence
Martial arts is often called 'human chess' for a reason. By teaching wrestling fundamentals, we help kids develop spatial awareness and coordination that they simply cannot get from field sports. They learn to listen to their body and react to their opponent's weight and balance.
Safety First, Ego Second
We train in our dedicated Hebbal and Kodigehalli facilities on high-density puzzle mats. All drilling is strictly supervised. There is no room for ego here. We start with basics—footwork and hip movement—long before we introduce complex takedowns. My goal is to ensure that your child gains the confidence to walk away from conflict, but has the technical skill to defend themselves if they absolutely have to.
The Curriculum
- Positional Awareness: Learning how to establish and maintain dominant positions without relying on brute force.
- Safe Takedowns: Practical, controlled movements that prioritize the safety of both the attacker and the defender.
- Escapes & Reversals: Teaching kids how to get out of tough spots using technique and leverage rather than panic.
- Conditioning: Wrestling is intense. Our warm-ups include the same calisthenics we use for our pro fighters, building functional strength from a young age.
