Commercial Interior Design for Restaurants and Retail
Commercial design is about balancing business operations with the guest experience. I create spaces that tell a story, improve your workflow, and invite customers to stay longer.
The 'Chambal' restro-bar features an open-plan dining area with a monochromatic red color scheme and rustic brick walls. The design creates a warm, energetic atmosphere perfect for a modern Indian restaurant.
This view of 'Chambal' shows the bar and seating arrangement. The layout is designed for efficient service flow, while the mix of globe lights, arched windows, and wood furniture provides a rustic yet elegant ambiance.
The sleek, minimalist staircase at 'Chambal' is a design feature in itself. Its delicate metalwork contrasts with the earthy red walls and rustic artifacts, creating a point of visual interest.
The corridor at 'Chambal' uses repetition in the arched brick doorways and the sleek staircase railing to create a strong sense of rhythm and direction, guiding patrons through the space.
Natural light filters into the corridor, highlighting the texture of the brickwork and the simple, modern bench. The artwork adds a splash of color and personality to the passage.
This video tour of 'Chambal' showcases the overall ambiance, from the intimate arched doorways to the expansive dining hall. It highlights how the lighting and material choices come together to transport diners.

About this collection
When I approach commercial interiors, I look beyond the initial visual impact. It is about balancing the operational needs of your business with the comfort of your customers. A well-planned floor layout in a restaurant, for instance, must ensure seamless service flow while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere for diners, effectively using lighting and materials to define zones without building walls.
Great commercial design is invisible to the patron but highly effective for the business owner. In my work, I focus on how the space functions during peak hours. Whether it is a fine-dining restaurant like Coast II Coast, where pinewood grids create intimate zones, or a restro-bar like Chambal, where lighting and texture guide the movement, the goal is always to enhance the user's journey.
Designing for Flow and Function
Commercial spaces, whether offices or retail shops, require a rigorous approach to spatial planning. You have to consider staff movement, electrical layouts, and ventilation alongside the aesthetic elements. In smaller footprints, such as the award-winning Cha Angadi kiosk, I use modular, foldable structures to maximize utility without sacrificing the brand’s visual identity.
The Role of Materiality
Materials do more than look good; they set the tone. Using honest, rustic materials like brick, exposed stone, or timber can transport a customer, creating a connection to the 'slow life' of rural India or the coast, even in the middle of a busy city hub. I prioritize durable, locally sourced materials that age gracefully, ensuring your investment remains relevant for years rather than needing a renovation after a single season.
Technical Precision
Beyond the look, I ensure the technical side is sound. This includes:
- Acoustics & Lighting: Creating a balance between ambient light for mood and focused light for service.
- Service Zones: Hiding the utility areas while keeping them accessible to staff.
- Climate Control: Integrating cross-ventilation or HVAC systems so the interior climate stays comfortable year-round.
Int-Hab
I am Sachin, founder of Int-Hab. I approach commercial interiors with the same rigor as home architecture, focusing on how light, materials, and movement create a lasting impression. My goal is to design a space that supports your specific business operations while giving your customers a reason to return.
