Custom Upcycled Saree Outfits & Heirloom Restyling
Your mother’s saree carries memories, not just threads. I help you give those precious fabrics a second life by transforming them into outfits you will love to wear again.
This project was very special. I took a client's mother's vintage purple Banarasi saree and upcycled it into a modern peplum top and skirt for her, and a matching frock for her daughter.
About Upcycled Creations
When I work with a vintage saree, I don't just cut fabric. I study the Zari borders and motifs to ensure they become the highlight of your new design. Whether it is preserving the heavy pallu for a skirt or using the flowy body for a dress, we will decide the cut together so the history stays intact while the style feels entirely new.
There is something special about wearing a piece of family history. I know that old silk or Banarasi saree in your closet represents memories of your mother or grandmother, and it can be hard to part with it or keep it locked away. That is where I come in.
My upcycling process is gentle and deliberate. Before I touch a pair of scissors, I spend time with the fabric, assessing the strength of the Zari, the condition of the silk, and the placement of the motifs. Whether it is a heavy Banarasi, a delicate chiffon, or a classic Kanjeevaram, the goal is always to respect the fabric while giving it a modern silhouette.
What we can create:
- Lehengas & Pattu Pavadai: These are perfect for preserving heavy borders. The saree gets a new life as a festive skirt set, often with extra flair for kids or adults.
- Jumpsuits & Maxi Dresses: If you prefer something Indo-western, I can turn the flowy body of the saree into a breezy, stylish jumpsuit.
- Mother-Daughter Matching: This is my favourite service. We can take one adult-sized saree and create a matching set for you and your little one, ensuring the 'connection' carries over to the next generation.
A quick heads-up: Because I am working with fabrics that have history, I always start with a conversation about what is possible. If a fabric is too fragile, I will tell you honestly, because I want your new outfit to last for years, not just one event. If you have an old saree that you have been meaning to do something with, send me a message. Let’s see what story we can tell with it.
