Our Architectural Design Process: From Vision to Reality
We believe architecture is a dialogue. Our design process combines rigorous site analysis with collaborative workshops, ensuring your project evolves from a concept into a thriving, built reality.
This reel illustrates how an initial architectural vision evolves through dialogue with the client. The final design is a product of collaboration and debate, a richer solution born from a shared creative process.
A short animation demonstrating key principles that shape a building's form. This includes orienting the building for optimal light, identifying biophilic zones for green terraces, and maximizing green cover to create a sustainable and healthy environment.
A look at different types of gateways I have designed, from grand university entrances to intimate resort arrivals. Each gateway is more than an entrance; it is a cornerstone that sets the character and first impression of a place.
Our team reviewing a full-scale mockup of the prefabricated wooden treehouse for our Kanha project. This hands-on workshop visit is a critical step to finalize design details, material finishes, and service integrations before construction begins on site.
Inspect the prefabricated wooden wall panels for the Kanha treehouse. This off-site construction method ensures precision and quality while minimizing disruption to the natural forest environment during assembly.
A view of the timber frame structure for the Kanha treehouse mockup. This allows us to test the spatial quality and structural integrity of the design, ensuring every element is perfected with the forest in mind.
A close-up of the joinery and roof structure during the treehouse mockup review. This level of detail is crucial for ensuring the final construction is both durable and aesthetically refined, blending traditional woodcraft with modern prefabrication.
About this collection
We approach design through an agile 'Scrum' framework, treating the development phase as a series of intense, collaborative sprints. By holding 2-3 day workshops with stakeholders to finalize the design brief, we ensure democratic voting on priorities and clear alignment. This rigorous front-end effort prevents costly change-orders during construction, allowing us to focus on the fine details, like material joinery and site-specific light orientation, early in the process.
The Architecture of Collaboration
Our process is not about top-down delivery. It is a dialogue. We believe that the best buildings emerge from a shared understanding of what the land requires and what the people who inhabit it truly need.
Phase 1: Strategic Feasibility
Before we begin sketching, we analyze. Our 'Go/No-Go' feasibility studies provide a data-backed reality check. We review FSI, regional zoning laws, and topography to determine if a project is viable. This phase culminates in a Bankable Project Report, giving you the clarity needed to secure funding and establish a realistic budget.
Phase 2: The 'Scrum' Design Workshops
We move from theory to spatial choreography. In these sessions, we map out the 'must-haves' versus the 'good-to-haves.' By running wind-tunnel simulations and sun-path mapping alongside client feedback, we ensure the massing of your project optimizes views and natural light from day one.
Phase 3: Mockups and Materiality
We do not rely on digital models alone. Whether it is a prefabricated treehouse in Kanha or a resort in Lonavala, we build full-scale mockups to test timber joinery, acoustic panels, and structural framework. This hands-on phase allows us to troubleshoot assembly and texture before hitting the site.
Phase 4: Execution
Once construction begins, we manage the transition from digital plans to physical reality. We coordinate specialist consultants for HVAC, lighting, and pool filtration, ensuring the final build matches the vision we established in our first workshop.
IMK Architects
We are IMK Architects. We believe architecture is a conversation—a collaboration between us, our clients, and the context of the land. Our goal is to shape environments that foster community and well-being, building spaces that feel truly alive.
