Transforming historical landmarks into functional hospitality spaces requires a delicate balance. We focus on honoring the original architectural integrity while integrating seamless, modern infrastructure.

The majestic exterior of the Rambagh Palace Hotel. The architecture, with its intricate 'chhatris', arched windows, and grand domes, was carefully preserved during its conversion to a hotel, maintaining the authentic look and feel of its royal past.

About this collection

The primary challenge of heritage conversion lies in respecting existing spatial narratives while ensuring the property meets contemporary hospitality standards. When working on projects like the Rambagh Palace, our focus was to ensure that all necessary modern upgrades, such as HVAC systems and plumbing, remained entirely invisible, allowing the ornate 'chhatris' and grand domes to command the attention they deserve.

Our Philosophy of Restoration

Heritage conversion is not about modernization; it is about continuity. We approach these projects with a 'minimal intervention' mindset. The goal is to retain the architectural language of the era—whether it is the grand masonry of a palace or the subtle woodwork of an old lodge—and update the underlying systems to support luxury hospitality without compromising the site's historical authenticity.

Integrating Hidden Infrastructure

Modern guests expect high-performance climate control, silent acoustics, and efficient service flows. We specialize in retrofitting these technical requirements into historical envelopes. This often involves:

  • Discreet Zoning: Planning service routes that remain out of sight from the guest experience.
  • Climate Engineering: Utilizing passive design strategies to manage thermal loads, reducing the reliance on high-energy HVAC systems that can damage heritage structures.
  • Material Compatibility: Using traditional lime-based mortars and local stone masonry to match the existing fabric, ensuring that any necessary structural reinforcements age gracefully alongside the original construction.

The 'Scrum' Approach to Feasibility

Before we begin any conversion, we utilize our proprietary 'Scrum' process. This involves intensive workshops to map out the regulatory, structural, and financial viability of the project. We assess FSI, setbacks, and local zoning laws to ensure that the vision for a boutique heritage hotel is not only aesthetically viable but also operationally sustainable for years to come. By prioritizing what truly adds value to the guest experience, we help clients avoid the common pitfalls of over-designing historical spaces.
