About Signature Double-Walled Mugs
Unlike standard mugs, these double-walled pieces have a solid inner cup and an intricately carved outer shell. This gap isn't just for show—it provides natural insulation, so your tea stays hot longer while the mug stays cool enough to hold comfortably. It is that perfect balance of functional design and artistic detail I love to create.
When you hold one of these mugs, you will notice the weight and texture immediately. I craft each one using high-fired stoneware, ensuring they are not just beautiful but also durable enough for daily use in the microwave or dishwasher.
The double-wall technique involves creating two separate layers of clay. Once I throw the inner form, I carefully attach the outer wall, which I then carve or pierce by hand. Whether it is a geometric pattern, a nature-inspired leaf motif, or a personal detail like a paw print, the outer shell allows the color of the inner mug to peek through, creating a depth you cannot get with a single-walled design.
Why choose a double-walled design?
- Temperature Control: The air gap acts as an insulator, keeping your beverage hot while the exterior remains cool to the touch.
- Artistic Detail: The piercing work highlights the contrast between the glossy exterior glazes and the matte or dark stoneware underneath.
- Durability: Fired at high temperatures, these mugs are designed to withstand regular use in your home or office.
Since everything is made by hand in my studio in Uttarahalli, Bengaluru, no two mugs are exactly alike. The glaze flow and carving nuances vary with every batch, meaning your mug is truly one of a kind. If you have a specific pattern or theme in mind, reach out and we can discuss the design.
