Learning happens everywhere, not just at a desk. From museum visits to kitchen experiments, see how we turn everyday life into a classroom for deep, hands-on discovery.

It’s always a joy to see my Math From Scratch program come to life in schools. Here, I’m with two young learners who have just completed a hands-on activity. My goal is to empower both students and teachers to build a strong, joyful foundation in mathematics from the very beginning.

It was a joy to be part of this Open House event. This video captures the energy and excitement of the day, where my son Kai helped demonstrate our games and tools. It was a beautiful showcase of what happens when children are empowered to lead their own learning.

A visit to a science innovation center is a fantastic way to see concepts in action. This video captures the wonder and excitement of exploring exhibits on everything from physics to light patterns. These are the moments that ignite a lifelong passion for STEM.

A teacher's heart is full of memories. This is a photo with some of my former students, now all grown up. It's a beautiful reminder of the families we make and lose year after year in the teaching profession.

This was a proud moment. My son used LEGO bricks to spell out a message in Braille after a lesson on communication. It’s a powerful example of how children can take a concept and make it their own through creative, hands-on exploration.

It took days to build, and it broke in seconds. Rebuilding this LEGO model was a powerful lesson in perseverance, grit, and the value of hard work. Sometimes the most important lessons aren't in the success, but in the recovery from failure.

A visit to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City. Exploring this historic aircraft carrier and the space shuttle Enterprise was an awe-inspiring lesson in courage, innovation, and the human drive to explore.

My son and I inside a space capsule replica at the Intrepid Museum. It’s a humbling experience to see the tight quarters astronauts worked in and a powerful reminder of the bravery it takes to journey into the unknown.

My son at the helm of an anti-aircraft gun on the deck of the USS Intrepid. Interactive exhibits like this make history come alive and give children a tangible connection to the past.

Waving from the cockpit of a jet at the Intrepid Museum. These moments of playful exploration are where some of the most lasting memories and learning connections are made.

About Our Learning Adventures

I am often asked how to make learning stick for a child who finds schoolwork dull. The secret isn't a different textbook, but a change in environment. When you are baking in the kitchen or walking through a museum, ask your child to identify one pattern they see or to scale a recipe for a smaller batch. These are not just fun activities—they are the building blocks of cognitive flexibility and real-world math agility.
