## Q1. What does a baby shower or seemantham cost in Bengaluru?

**A baby shower or seemantham for 30 guests in Bengaluru costs about ₹20,000 to ₹50,000, with a caterer, a decorator, a photographer, a cake and return gifts. That's before the hall's rent and transport. For 100 guests it's about ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, because food grows with every guest.** Those sums take a decoration of up to ₹19,000, which buys a simple seemantham stage with her seat. A fuller stage, up to ₹35,000, or a big stage in a hall costs more. Nearly 3 in 4 of the 60 families who gave us a decoration budget planned ₹10,000 or less. That buys balloons with a neon sign, and it's about where a wall of fresh flowers starts.

A wedding-size stage in fresh roses goes past a lakh. **Doing it yourself works for a small function at home.** Balloons and a pump cost under ₹400 online, marigold is ₹40 a kg at KR Market in a normal week and more just before Varamahalakshmi, and a relative's phone does the photos. It takes the family an evening to tie it all up.

Put in your guests to see the whole function both ways. Food, serving staff and return gifts grow with every guest. The decoration, photos and cake don't.

**Ask what the photo shows that the price leaves out.** Extra plates, her seat, a neon sign or BABY blocks can cost more.

**There's no gender reveal look here.** Telling anyone the baby's sex is against the law in India (section 5(2) of the PC-PNDT Act, 1994), so we left out the "He or She" setups some galleries show.

## Q3. Why do baby shower and seemantham decoration quotes vary so much?

**A cheaper quote is usually a wall of banana leaves or marigold behind her. A higher one is a wider wall in more and richer flowers, or a stage built around her.** A stage adds a carved seat, rows of styled plates of fruit and sweets, dolls and a welcome board, and that's what fills the ritual photos. So ask every quote for the same four things: her seat, real or artificial flowers, the backdrop's width and how many plates.

1. **The seat for her:** ₹1,000 to ₹4,000. A sofa hired on its own from Rent For Event, with delivery and setup, for the whole hire. Decor Your Dreams' stage has a seat in its price. Pick id: `piece:seat-for-her`.

**Bought one by one, the pieces around the backdrop can cost as much again as the backdrop.** Decor Your Dreams' usual seemantham, ₹15,000 to ₹19,000, already holds a seat for her, plates of fruit and sweets with dolls, a welcome board and brass lamps.

Our estimate of what to add to a backdrop that has none of these. Each line is rounded to ₹100. Ten plates is an example, so ask how many a quote includes.

**The plates move the price most.** The two decorators here who price them charge ₹900 to ₹1,500 for a styled plate of fruit and sweets, so ten cost about what a simple flower wall does.

**Real flowers cost more than artificial ones for the same design.** Party Choice quoted one mandap with a swing at ₹35,000 in artificial flowers and ₹50,000 in real ones. Real flowers smell of the occasion and look alive up close. Artificial ones cost less and look the same all day.

**A wider backdrop costs more.** Party Choice's 6 ft ring or panel at home is ₹10,000 to ₹15,000, and its 16 to 20 ft stage with a sofa is ₹32,000 to ₹45,000.

**Her seat isn't always in the price.** Party Choice's home setup lists none, and its hall stage has a sofa. If you'll drape your own sofa and set out your own plates, a simpler backdrop does the job.

## Q4. Baby shower food in Bengaluru: what does it cost a plate, and what do we serve?

**Caterers charge by the plate, and the menu sets the price. A vegetarian lunch costs about ₹280 to ₹550 a plate here, and Smart Chef Catering's premium buffet runs to ₹1,200.** Serving staff and transport can come on top, so ask what's in the plate price: the plates, the staff, transport and GST.

**A simple veg meal costs less.** Bhandary's Kitchen, a Bengaluru caterer, says in its March 2026 guide to the city that caterers here charge ₹150 to ₹280 a plate for a simple veg menu and ₹280 to ₹350 for a standard South Indian one. Cooking at home costs your groceries. We found no published rate for a cook who comes home, so ask one for a day rate.

- **For the ritual.** Ask your elders what the lunch must be. If it has to be pure veg, or without onion and garlic, ask whether the same kitchen also cooks non-veg.
- **For a party.** Snacks, a grazing table or a buffet, and the cake.
- **For her.** Tell the caterer what her doctor wants her to skip.

## Q5. What do we buy for a seemantham, godh bharai or valaikappu, and what does it add to the bill?

**The ceremony has its own shopping: her saree, bangles, plates of fruit, sweets and coconut, flowers, a gift for each woman and the priest's fee.** Get the priest's full list first. Styled plates are the biggest line.

**Most of the list has no published price, so ask.**

- **The priest:** ask your family priest.
- **Plates of fruit, sweets, dry fruit and coconut:** ₹900 to ₹1,500 a plate, styled, contents included, from Dream Decor and Decor Your Dreams. Dream Decor takes at least 10. Ask your decorator how many plates its price holds.
- **A gift for each woman:** from ₹25 for a printed bag at Wedtree, or ₹89 for a canvas one. Both are empty.
- **Glass bangles:** ask. We found no shop's price outside online marketplaces.
- **Marigold and jasmine:** marigold ₹40 to ₹60 a kg, jasmine ₹400 to ₹500 a kg, at KR Market in August 2026. The low price is a normal week, the high price just before Varamahalakshmi.
- **Banana stems and mango leaves:** stems ₹50 to ₹200 a pair and leaves ₹30 to ₹40, from Urban Acres in the Ganesha festival week of September 2026, when prices run high. It gives no unit for the leaves, so ask the seller.
- **Oil and wicks for the lamps:** ask. Decor Your Dreams' brass lamps come without them.

**Write one list, with a name against each line.** Coconuts, banana and mango leaves, flowers and the plates are on the priest's list, the decorator's and the caterer's. Each thinks someone else is bringing them, so nothing comes, or it comes twice and you pay twice.

At a valaikappu the women put glass bangles on her wrists, so ask your family how many to buy. At a godh bharai they fill her lap with fruit, coconut and sweets.

## Q6. Which month of pregnancy is the seemantham held, and how early do we book?

**A seemantham is usually held in the sixth, seventh or eighth month, depending on the family and the text it follows, so your priest and elders set the date.** A valaikappu is often in the fifth or seventh. Book the decorator two to three weeks ahead, nearer three for a weekend.

**The texts differ on the month.** Depending on which you read, a seemantham is in the fourth, sixth, seventh or eighth month, and a godh bharai in the sixth or eighth. One Vedic site prefers a Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday morning. A baby shower party has no rule. Her doctor has the last word on the date.

**Book the hall and the priest first,** because they fix the time and the rules the decorator works to. Then book the decorator, the caterer, the photographer and the cake.

For a weekend date, use the three weeks for any decorator, because the shorter notices may not hold then.

Each notice is what that business told us or publishes, except the decorator's weeks, which are our advice.

**Too late for the decorator?** About half of the 87 requests that gave us a date were sent two weeks or less before the function. Ask anyway, and ask more than one. Some need far less notice, such as Party Choice at two to three days.

## Q7. If we have to move or cancel the baby shower, do we lose the advance?

**Probably yes, if you cancel. Most decorators keep the advance, because they buy the flowers and props for your date.** Most will move it to a new date if they're free, so ask what happens if you move the date before you pay, and get the answer on WhatsApp.

Each decorator's own terms. A percentage is a share of your total. Decor Your Dreams told us only her advance, so ask her the rest.

- **Mahinava Events:** the other 70% is paid on the day. If she's free on the new date, your advance carries over. If she's busy, she keeps half the advance, which is 15% of your total, and gives back the other half.
- **Party Choice:** the rest on the day, once the work is done. In wedding season a new date often isn't free.
- **Dream Decor:** the ₹2,000 is a flat fee, whatever your total. It comes on top, and your advance stays.
- **Mirakle Events:** book two months or more ahead and it's 50% on booking, 30% nearer the date and 20% after the event. Book 10 to 15 days ahead and it's 80% up front and 20% after the event. For a booking between 15 days and two months ahead, ask what applies. Cancel within a week of the event and nothing comes back. Cancel around 20 to 30 days before and part comes back, depending on what he has already spent. For any other time, ask.
- **TK Balloon Shades:** the other 70% when it's done. He has no written policy and doesn't refund a cancellation as a rule. Once he has bought materials, the 30% is gone.

**Ask the hall too.** KSLTA, a members' tennis club in Bengaluru, keeps part of its party hall's rent if you cancel late: 25% of the rent at 5 days before, rising to 80% with less than 3 days to go.

**Two of the three photographers take a flat sum up front.** XD Photography takes ₹500 and the rest on the day. He told us on a call in early September 2026 that he moves the date for free and that the advance is refundable. Cygnus Photography takes more than ₹1,000 and the rest after the event, so ask how much. Vandana Rout, the third, takes half up front and the rest on the day.

## Q8. How do we keep a pregnant mother comfortable and safe at her baby shower?

**Plan the day around her.** Do the rituals and photos first, while she's fresh. Give her a proper seat with a back, keep homam smoke and strong-smelling flowers away from her, and have a plate of food she can eat ready before the guests start.

- **The seat.** About 1 in 4 of the 156 requests we read mention a seat for her, such as a chair, a sofa, a chowki or a swing. Simpler setups often leave it out: Dream Decor's simplest one lists none, and Decor Your Dreams' seemantham includes one. If the setup has none, hire a sofa or drape your own.
- **A swing.** If she's to sit on a jhula or oonjal, ask whether it's built for an adult to sit on, since some are only photo props. Ask how she gets on and off.
- **The stage.** Ask for a low stage or her seat at floor level, and someone to give her a hand on the steps.
- **Smoke.** Seat her away from the homam, near a window. In a tower, the flats' smoke detectors can set off the whole building's alarm, so tell the association before a homam.
- **Flowers.** Jasmine and tuberose smell strong in a closed room. If scents bother her, ask for marigold and chrysanthemum near her seat.
- **Food.** Ask her doctor what to skip. Britain's NHS lists unpasteurised milk and cream, and keeps caffeine under 200 mg a day. We found no Indian health body's page on it we could read.
- **Rest.** A room where she can lie down for a while, and a toilet near the stage.
- **The calls.** Make someone other than her the one the vendors call that morning.

## Q9. Home, clubhouse, hall or restaurant: where should we hold a baby shower in Bengaluru?

**Home has no rent and the fewest rules.** For a clubhouse, hall or restaurant, ask in writing before you pay: can we bring our own caterer and decorator, is a homam or a lit lamp allowed, can anything touch the walls, and when must we be out.

- **At home:** a small family function, with no rent and your own kitchen. Ask about your building's rules: the gate, the lift and parking, and if you rent, whether anything can go on the walls.
- **Clubhouse:** room for more, close to home. Ask about the music and the deposit too.
- **Hall or mandapam:** a big family, a homam and lunch on site. Ask if there's any extra for the homam or cleaning.
- **Restaurant or cafe:** a small party with friends. Ask about a minimum spend, and how long before the guests the decorator gets the room.

**For example,** KSLTA, a members' tennis club in Bengaluru, allows no outside food or drink in its party hall, takes sound only through its own vendors, and wants the menu final 72 hours before.

**If nothing can touch the walls,** the decorator brings a frame that stands on its own, so tell them before they quote. A frame alone hires for ₹1,500 to ₹5,000 with delivery and setup from Rent For Event, on a page from July 2024.

**A park is out for most.** Lalbagh bans group activities and birthday parties. Cubbon Park needs permission for more than 20 people.

## Q10. What happens at a seemantham, in what order, and how long does it take?

**One Vedic account puts the seemantham's rituals in the morning, before noon.** Ask your priest for your family's order and how long it runs, then book the hall and the photographer for the whole morning.

- **The evening before, or before dawn:** The decorator sets up. Party Choice takes 90 minutes for a home backdrop, and Mahinava Events two to three hours for a small stage.
- **Early morning:** She's dressed and seated before the muhurtham, and the photographer starts.
- **The muhurtham, before noon:** The priest's rituals. One Vedic account lists a homam, her husband parting her hair, music and the elders' blessing.
- **Lunch, if you serve one:** Her plate first.
- **Afternoon or evening, if you want a party:** Keep the same setup for the party. A second look needs a second setup, which takes a decorator 90 minutes to three hours. Ask if it costs extra.
- **After:** The take-down. Mahinava Events takes hers down the same day, in the price. Ask yours when, and if it costs extra.

## More questions

### Can we do a gender reveal at a baby shower in India?

No. Telling anyone the baby's sex, by words, signs or in any other way, is against section 5(2) of the PC-PNDT Act, 1994. In May 2024 Tamil Nadu's health department sent a notice to a YouTuber over a reveal video, and he took it down. So no reveal cake, game or boy-or-girl sign.

### Can one company do the decoration, food and photos for a baby shower?

Some can. Mirakle Events does all three: baby shower decoration from ₹9,000, a vegetarian lunch at ₹380 to ₹400 a plate, and traditional photos with an album for ₹14,000, with transport on top. We don't know what its ₹9,000 includes, so ask. Booking each one yourself lets you pick the best of each, for more calls.

### How many hours of photos does a baby shower need, and what do they cost?

XD Photography's baby shower packages are four hours: ₹5,999 with every photo edited, or ₹9,000 with a 2 to 3 minute reel. Either way, the edited photos come in 12 days. Cygnus Photography says ₹5,000 buys traditional photos only, with no candid ones. Vandana Rout starts at ₹15,000. A relative with a good phone costs nothing.

### Do we need a host for the games at a baby shower?

Not for a small family function, where a friend with a mic will do. Sushmita Sethia hosts family functions in Bengaluru for ₹25,000, about two hours with games. Party-cipate charges ₹4,500 for each baby shower game, such as Diaper Pong. Ask what that covers.

### It's our second baby: do families still do a seemantham?

Some do and some don't. Old texts disagree: some say once, for the first pregnancy, and others say for every one. It's your family's call.

### Do we need a priest for a seemantham, and what does one charge?

For the ritual, yes, or an elder who knows it. We found no Bengaluru priest's fee for a seemantham, godh bharai or valaikappu outside booking sites, so ask your family priest. He fixes the time, so book him before the hall and the decorator, and get his list early.

### What return gifts do people give at a seemantham or baby shower?

Printed bags start at ₹25 each and canvas bags at ₹89 at Wedtree, a gift shop that ships. Ask your elders what your family gives, and count a few more than the guest list.

## Where the numbers come from

- **Requests:** 156 Bengaluru baby shower requests to mytribe, April to 10 September 2026, from 150 families: the requests that reached the point where we sent decorators, so there were more requests than these. We left out one bridal shower filed under the same heading. Each request card is a family's own messages to mytribe, put in our words. The seat count (39 of 156) is from our summaries of each request, which include calls and pictures, so it counts requests that mention a seat for her. The share who wrote two weeks or less ahead is from the 87 requests that gave a date.
- **Themes:** how many of the 156 requests asked for each look, counted by hand from the request cards. A request counts in a look when its card names that look's pieces. For the first look that is banana leaf, marigold or brass lamps. For the second it is balloons, a ring or arch, an Oh Baby sign or BABY blocks. For the third it is flowers or a seat for her. Each request counts once in the three big looks, and a request that named none of them, or was open between two, is in none. A request that asked for two of the smaller themes counts in both. The two that asked for Baby in Bloom are also among the 29 for a western look. Each version's photo and price come from the same decorator, read from their records on 5 October 2026.
- **Budgets:** the chart counts 60 families who typed a budget for the decoration in their own WhatsApp messages, one request each. Where a family typed two figures, the first counts. We left out a range our assistant had just shown and the family picked or asked to stay within, a figure for more than the decoration, and a first message written for them. A range counts at its middle, and a ceiling such as "under 10k" at the ceiling. A budget exactly on the line between two bars goes in the lower bar. The median is ₹10,000.
- **Providers:** every price against a provider's name is theirs: Dream Decor's confirmed with us by June 2026, its terms on 25 September 2026, the rest between June and September 2026. Mahinava Events' backdrop price holds outside festival weeks.
- **What each decoration step costs across Bengaluru:** the ladder in Q1 covers the city's whole trade, the decorators named here among them, and each range is rounded. Each range rests on what decorators charge for that kind of setup, the providers here and other Bengaluru decorators' published prices, with the cost of its parts as a floor: balloons, a printed panel or flex, flowers and leaves at market prices, one to six people for two to six hours, and the trip. The seemantham stage's top is a fresh-flower wall plus the seat, ten plates and board priced in Q3. The last step runs from Dream Decor's smallest traditional set to where Party Choice's wedding-size banquet stage in fresh roses starts. All worked out on 5 October 2026.
