Outdoor Art Study Tours for All Ages
Step out of the studio and into the wild. Our study tours take you from Mumbai's iconic landmarks to peaceful nature retreats, giving you a fresh canvas for live sketching and landscape painting.
We believe the world is the best classroom. Our outdoor study tours are a core part of our curriculum, where students of all ages leave the studio to practice live sketching and landscape drawing in nature.
Hear from our students and their parents about their experience on our outdoor study tour. From sketching the Worli Sea Link to capturing trees in a park, it's a fun, hands-on experience that fosters a deep respect for nature.
From a 70-year-old 'youngster' to a first-time landscape painter, our study tours bring everyone together. Listen to our students, in their own words, share what they learned and loved about their live watercolor painting experience at Saguna Baug.
As the founder, our study tours are very close to my heart. It's where our motto of learning with understanding truly comes alive. Here, you can see students from all our batches, from kids to fine art students, enjoying the process of creating art outdoors.
Here's a live update from our Study Tour 2023 in Karjat. I'm taking you on a quick tour to see all our students, from the kids' batch to the senior citizens, completely absorbed in painting the beautiful landscapes around them.
A quick glimpse of our annual outdoor study tour. From the bus ride to finding the perfect spot by the water, these tours are about the entire experience of being an artist in the field.
About this collection
Trading studio lights for natural sunshine is a complete shift in how you work. Whether we are sketching the busy Worli Sea Link or capturing the quiet stillness of Karjat, you will learn to handle shifting sunlight, wind, and open space. It is not just about finishing a painting; it is about learning how to observe the world around you before you even touch your brush to the canvas.
Why We Go Outdoors
When you paint inside a studio, you have control. The light is constant, the environment is predictable. Taking our classes outdoors into the 'plein air' is our way of testing those skills. We want you to feel the difference between painting a photograph and painting a living, breathing landscape. It forces you to make quick decisions, manage your colour palette efficiently, and capture the 'vibe' of a place before the light changes.
Who This Is For
Our tours are not just for the advanced students. We take everyone. You will see our toddlers learning about textures near trees, our intermediate students tackling perspective in a park, and our senior citizens finding peace in a landscape session. It is a shared experience. Seeing a 70-year-old student and a 10-year-old child painting the same tree from different perspectives is exactly the kind of community we build at Grahin.
What You Learn
- Live Observation: We move away from copying from books. You learn to sketch what you actually see.
- Landscape Techniques: Dealing with water, foliage, and distant structures (like the hills in Karjat or architecture in the city).
- Speed and Efficiency: You learn to work fast, which is crucial for exam prep and developing your own artistic style.
We provide the guidance, the encouragement, and the support to help you get started. You just need to bring your kit and a willingness to try something new. Whether it is your first time holding a brush or you have been painting for years, there is a spot for you on our next bus.
Grahin Art Institute
I started Grahin in 2011 because I believe art is for everyone, regardless of age. When we head out on our study tours, it is purely about the joy of creating together. Whether you are a toddler finding your first colours or a senior exploring new hobbies, I am there to guide your brush.
