Skip the textbook drills. We focus on real skills—live sketching, geometry 'art sums', and mock tests to help you pass your exams with confidence.

Hear directly from our students who successfully cleared their Intermediate Grade Exams. They share how our focus on practical skills, live sketching, and improving finishing techniques helped them excel, rather than just following a textbook.

We are incredibly proud to share the fantastic results of our students in the 2022 Elementary and Intermediate Grade Exams. Their hard work and our dedicated coaching have paid off, with many achieving A and B grades.

Preparing for the Intermediate Grade Exam involves mastering subjects like Nature Drawing. This video shows a student practicing color mixing and application for a still life study of a banana, a common subject in these exams.

This is a fantastic example of a still life painting of a papaya, completed as part of our exam preparation studio work. Notice the rich colors and understanding of light and shadow, crucial skills for scoring well.

Before applying color, a strong foundation in drawing is essential. This is the initial pencil sketch for the papaya still life, focusing on accurate form, proportion, and tonal values. This is a key step we teach all our exam students.

Design Study is a critical component of the Elementary and Intermediate exams. Our students learn about design principles, composition, and color theory to create compelling and technically sound artwork for their exams.

Geometry, or 'art sums' as we sometimes call it, can be tricky. We hold dedicated online and offline sessions to ensure our students preparing for government grade exams have a solid understanding of the technical drawing required.

About this collection

The biggest challenge in government grade exams isn't just the painting; it's the geometry paper—what we call the 'art sums'. We don't just solve them on the board; we sit with you, step-by-step, to master constructions, circles, and polygons until it becomes second nature. It’s not about memorising steps, but understanding the logic so you stay calm during the actual exam.

Practical Art Coaching for Real Results

Most students fear the exam environment, but at Grahin, we treat it like a natural part of your artistic journey. Whether you are aiming for the Elementary and Intermediate Grade Exams or preparing a portfolio for top art colleges like the JJ School of Art, our approach remains the same: practice over theory.

Mastering the Exam Syllabus

We break down the core components of the grade exams into manageable modules. You won't just learn to copy; you will learn to see.

  • Still Life & Nature: We focus on rendering light, shadow, and texture on real objects. You aren't drawing from a picture; you are drawing the fruit or pot right in front of you.
  • Memory Drawing: We train you to capture human figures and daily life scenes rapidly. This is about observation and composition, not just muscle memory.
  • Design & Colour: We dive into 2D design principles—repetition, contrast, and harmonious color schemes—so you can compose balanced, professional layouts.

Why Our Students Succeed

We run regular mock tests that simulate the actual exam room. By the time you sit for the real paper, the pressure, the time limits, and the materials will feel familiar. We also offer dedicated sessions for geometry, where we simplify the technical paper so you don't lose marks on construction problems.

Our centers in Ghatkopar, Thane, and Dadar are designed to be spaces where you can 'paint your dreams' with 'prem' and 'aatmiyata'. We don't just prepare you for a certificate; we prepare you to think like an artist. If you are struggling with a specific technique—whether it's merging colors or getting your proportions right—just ask. We are here to help you get there. 🎨✨

I started Grahin because I wanted art to be about real expression, not just filling in diagrams. When I see my students ace their grade exams, it’s not because they memorized a textbook, but because they learned how to trust their own hand and eye. Come by, let's work on your portfolio together.
