About Press & Publications
In this magazine feature, I break down the specific manual sculpting techniques used to create the "Neelaveni" figurine, from the fabric textures to the facial expressions, entirely without moulds. It is the same foundational approach I teach in my workshops—focusing on proportion, structure, and patience rather than shortcuts.
Getting published in Cake Masters Magazine India was a surreal moment. I have spent years as a home baker in Bangalore, perfecting the art of sculpting characters by hand. When I saw my "Neelaveni" piece—a one-tier wonder cake rooted in Indian folklore—in the January 2024 issue, it was not just about the recognition. It was about showing that Indian cake artists have a unique, beautiful voice in the global confectionery scene.
The editorial feature includes a step-by-step tutorial on how I achieved the intricate details on the figurine’s attire and the structural stability of the cake, without relying on silicone moulds. My philosophy, which I explore in this feature, is that anyone can learn to bring a character to life if they understand anatomy and material behavior.
If you have ever looked at a sculpted cake and wondered how the pieces stay upright or how the features are shaped so precisely, this magazine spread covers the core principles I teach in my in-person workshops in HSR Layout. Whether you are a fellow home baker or someone just curious about the craft, I hope my journey from my kitchen to the magazine pages inspires you to try your hand at fondant sculpting. It really is all about imagination and a bit of sugar.
