Beyond just a likeness, I aim to capture the raw character and quiet stories behind every face. Using oil and acrylics, I focus on the details that make you, you—from the subtle glint in your eye to the stories etched in every line.

The final painting of my expressive old man portrait. I focused on capturing the story in his eyes and the character in his expression, using a dark background to make his face the absolute center of attention.

Here I am with the finished portrait. Giving a thumbs-up because I was so happy with how this challenging piece turned out after weeks of dedicated painting.

The finished commission of a portrait of an old man, ready to be shipped to its new home in Bangalore. I actually went back and improvised this piece because I wasn't fully satisfied, and I'm much happier with this final version.

This portrait commission took approximately 65 hours to complete. I really enjoyed the process of discovering and painting the different skin tones to achieve this level of realism.

A final look at the completed portrait on the easel. Every detail, from the glint in the glasses to the texture of the skin, is carefully rendered by hand.

About Expressive Character Portraits

I spend roughly 65 hours on each character portrait, layering oils to catch the specific light in a subject's eyes or the texture of their skin. If a piece does not capture the true spirit of the expression, I do not hesitate to rework it, because I want this to be a painting that feels deeply personal to you.

When you commission a portrait, you are not just asking for a painting of a face; you are asking for a study of character. My process is entirely manual and rooted in the techniques of traditional oil and acrylic painting. I start with a deep consultation to understand the reference, and then build the canvas layer by layer. This technique, often called 'Fat over Lean', ensures the durability and depth of color that you only get with high-quality oil paints.

Because I prioritize hyper-realism, my work involves a significant amount of time observing and documenting details that others might miss. Whether it is the subtle smile, the wrinkles that show a life well-lived, or the unique gaze, I obsess over these elements until they look right. It is common for me to invest over 65 hours into a single portrait. I believe this patience is necessary to move from a simple drawing to a piece of art that carries emotional weight.

I ship all my work from my studio in Mumbai. Every piece is packed with care—using acid-free paper, bubble wrap, and reinforced corrugated boxing—to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition anywhere in India. My 2025 commissions are currently open, though I limit the number of projects I take on at any time to ensure each canvas receives my full, undivided attention. If you have a specific vision or a memory you want to freeze in time, let us talk about how to bring that to life.
