Inside Our Workshop: The Real Process Behind Custom Furniture
I don't believe in showing you just a pretty polish. Here is how we actually build our furniture in our Mumbai workshop, from the raw wood frames to the final foam layers.
Come for a tour of my 6000 sq. ft. modular furniture workshop in Vasai. I'll show you the machinery, the high-quality Regency P.W.R. grade ply I use, and how my team and I build everything from beds and wardrobes to modular kitchens.
The inside of your furniture is more important than the outside. Here, I'm showing the different combinations of foam I use, from high-density bonded foam for support to softer foam for comfort, so you know you're getting quality that lasts.
Quality furniture requires skill and the right tools. This is my team at work in our Mumbai workshop, cutting, grinding, and welding metal frames to create the strong foundation for our chairs and tables.
This is the skeleton of a custom curved sofa. I build every frame from solid wood to ensure it is strong and durable, creating the foundation for a piece that will last for many years.
A look at a wooden dining chair frame being carved and shaped by hand in my workshop. This is where the design starts to take shape, showing the raw teakwood before sanding and polishing.
The art of tufting a classic Chesterfield sofa. This video shows the detailed process of creating the deep button-tufted pattern on a rich, green leatherette, a hallmark of this timeless design.
The base structure of our metal coffee tables in progress. You can see the stainless steel frames being constructed, ensuring a sturdy and well-finished product before the top is added.
A glimpse of the sanding and finishing process. This is a crucial step where I ensure every surface is perfectly smooth before applying the final polish or paint.
Here, I am using a CNC machine to precisely cut designs into an HDF sheet. This technology allows me to create intricate patterns for doors, headboards, and other decorative elements.

About What's Inside Matters: Our Workshop Process
Forget the finish for a second—look at what's underneath. We use a three-layer 'sandwich' foam technique (40D+Bonded+32D) on all our sofa frames, not cheap single-density blocks. That, plus 18mm commercial plywood (IS:303 grade), is why our sofas don't sag after a few months. When you chat with me, ask about the internal frame; that is where the real cost and quality difference is.
Why The Inside Matters
Most people get fooled by photos of a nice-looking sofa that costs 5000 rupees. The truth? It won't last two months. In our workshop, we start with 18mm commercial plywood (IS:303 grade), not thin particle board. When you see our team welding metal frames or cutting teakwood for chair skeletons, you are seeing the actual structure that determines if your furniture will last for seven years or seven weeks.
Our Manufacturing Process
- Framing: Every sofa starts with solid Sal or Marandi wood. We reinforce this with elastic webbing and zig-zag springs for the bounce you actually need.
- Foaming: The 'sandwich' method is non-negotiable. We combine high-density bonded foam (80-100D) at the base for support, 40D HR foam in the middle for durability, and 32D super soft foam on top for comfort.
- Tech & Precision: We use CNC machines for precise wood cutting and specialized edge-banding for our modular wardrobes and kitchens. This ensures that when we install the piece at your home, it fits perfectly without gaps or loose corners.
Transparency in Production
We document this process because I want you to know exactly what you are paying for. Whether it is a Chesterfield sofa with deep-button tufting or a hydraulic storage bed, my team builds it from scratch in our Vasai and Goregaon setups. When you come to us, you aren't just buying a piece of furniture; you are ensuring your money goes into the quality of the materials inside, not just the marketing on the outside.
Design Point Furniture
I’m Vijay Karande. I have been building furniture in Mumbai since 2010, and I’ve seen exactly how the market tries to fool people with 'cheap' online deals. I don't run a showroom for show; I run a 6000 sq. ft. workshop where we handle everything from the initial wood cutting to the final finish. If you want something made to last, I'm your guy.
