Sustainable Earthy Homes and Architecture

We craft homes that breathe by blending traditional materials like mud, brick, and terracotta with modern architectural techniques. Our designs prioritize thermal comfort and a deep connection to nature, creating spaces that feel grounded and timeless.

This home, Madhura, was designed to feel like an ancestral dwelling but for a modern urban life. It's a story told through mud, stone, and light.

The exterior of the Madhura house showcases a blend of traditional forms and modern design, with exposed brick walls and layered terraces that connect the home to its surroundings.

The living room in the Madhura house opens directly to the garden, centered around the Tulasi Brindavan. The combination of a yellow Jaisalmer stone floor and a terracotta vault roof fills the space with warmth.

I design spaces for living and gathering. This room, with its Jaisalmer stone floor and terracotta vault, is perfect for music sessions and intimate conversations.

A moment of music and connection in the Madhura house. The earthy material palette of terracotta and stone creates a warm, acoustically rich environment.

This view highlights the rich, monolithic color of the terracotta vault and walls, creating a cozy and enveloping atmosphere in the living area.

About this collection

Choosing an earthy home is a sensory experience. You will notice the natural thermal comfort of our compressed stabilized earth block (CSEB) walls immediately, and our hand-troweled oxide floors stay naturally cool throughout the day, significantly reducing the need for artificial air conditioning.

Our approach is rooted in the belief that a home should tell a story. In our 'Madura' project, we utilized a combination of load-bearing mud blocks and terracotta vault roofs to create a space that feels like an ancestral dwelling within a dense, modern urban context.

Why Earthy Materials Matter

We focus on what we call bioclimatic design. By avoiding cement plaster and painting on interior walls, we allow the house to breathe. Materials like red wire-cut bricks and CSEB (Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks) regulate indoor humidity and temperature naturally. When you walk on our yellow oxide flooring or sit in a 'jagali' (sun-soaked deck), you are experiencing materials that age gracefully and require minimal maintenance.

The Process

We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all build. Our work includes:

  • Structural Innovation: We use filler slab roofs with terracotta pots to reduce concrete usage and keep the ceiling cool.
  • Artisanal Finishes: Every oxide floor is hand-troweled, and our feature walls often incorporate custom leaf imprints or traditional pointing, turning construction elements into art.
  • Biophilic Connection: We integrate courtyards and tulasi brindavans to blur the line between your living room and the garden.

Whether you are looking for an earthy, vernacular home or a modern structure with traditional soul, we handle the full architecture and interior design, from the first sketch to the final styling of your home.
