Design Details & Materiality: Crafting Tactile Interiors
Our approach to interior architecture relies on the precise interplay of raw, unrefined textures and controlled spatial configurations.
This bar, part of a larger architectural gesture, features a Gabion wall facia. We contained randomly sized stones within a metal wire mesh to introduce a raw, textural element that contrasts with the monolithic black surfaces, creating a point of material drama and interest.
About Design Details & Materiality
The bar featured here demonstrates our technique of contrasting rough, stone-filled Gabion walls with monolithic black surfaces. We engineered the wire mesh structure to hold randomly sized stones securely, ensuring the assembly remains stable while providing a tactile anchor to the surrounding dark ceramic and PU finishes.
Materiality remains the cornerstone of our design process. By pairing stark, monochromatic volumes with natural, unrefined textures, we create spaces that provoke a sensory response. Our work at the Vaulted Haus exemplifies this dialogue between the industrial and the organic. We often look at cabinetry and wall cladding not merely as surfaces, but as structural elements that define the user's journey through a room. This requires rigorous technical detailing, especially when integrating niche components like kinetic lighting, custom metalwork, or complex stone installations. We approach every junction with an architectural eye, ensuring that the transition from a smooth PU-coated wall to a raw stone surface is deliberate and seamless. This method of material curation extends beyond the visual; it is about how light interacts with depth and how textures dictate the pace of movement within a space. Whether it is the inclusion of Honed Chiku Limestone in a retail showroom or Gabion elements in a residential bar, our objective is to create environments that are both functional and intellectually engaging.
