About Bowls for Every Occasion
Because I throw each bowl on the wheel, you will notice slight variations in the rim shape, so no two are identical. While I do make many of these microwave and dishwasher safe, I always recommend hand-washing my more intricately painted pieces to keep the botanical details sharp for years.
Bringing 'Maati' Home
I believe a bowl should feel substantial in your hands. Whether it is a deep pasta dish or a shallow salad bowl, I work with stoneware clay because it holds heat well and stands up to daily use.
My Process
My process starts at the wheel in my Prabhadevi studio. I do not use molds, so every bowl has its own character. For my 'Chip and Dip' sets, I specifically sculpt the dip compartment to be deep enough for thick hummus or tangy chutneys without spilling. For the pasta and salad bowls, I focus on the curve—wide enough to showcase your food but deep enough to keep everything contained.
What You Can Expect
- Functionality: From 18cm pasta bowls to small condiment dishes, my range covers everything from quick weeknight noodles to Sunday brunch setups.
- Design: You will find a mix of earthy, rustic glazes and hand-painted botanical motifs like lotuses and ferns.
- Durability: I fire my stoneware at high temperatures. This creates a dense, non-porous body that is resistant to chips and cracks.
Caring for Your Ceramics
Most of my bowls are perfectly safe for the microwave and dishwasher, making them practical for your busy Mumbai home. If you choose one of my hand-painted, illustrated pieces, I suggest a gentle hand wash to protect the surface illustrations. Avoid extreme thermal shock, like taking a dish directly from the freezer to a hot oven, to ensure these pieces stay part of your kitchen ritual for a long time.
