About Fusion & Band Collaborations
Fusion for me is about finding the point where the sitar’s sympathetic strings can truly breathe alongside a modern bassline or keyboard chord. When I work with my band, Urja, we focus on that balance—ensuring the classical discipline stays intact even when we bring in drums or tabla for a contemporary groove. It is not just about playing notes, it is about building a soundscape that feels new yet rooted.
Whether we are composing original tracks like 'Crazy 7' or reinterpreting familiar melodies, the process usually starts in the rehearsal room. I value these sessions because they allow us to test arrangements, adjust the dynamics of the sitar to cut through a mix, and ensure the energy is right before we hit the stage or the studio.
I have had the joy of collaborating with many talented artists, including my brother Chirag. These partnerships are where I learn the most, as they push me to experiment with different phrasings and timings. I approach every rehearsal with a focus on communication—listening to how the percussion supports the melody and how we can best tell a story through the music.
If you are looking to bring a unique, sitar-led fusion sound to your project—whether it is a live concert performance or a studio session recording—my focus is always on making sure the collaboration feels genuine. I am flexible with creative input and always happy to discuss how we can adapt a specific raag or style to fit the vibe of your event or album.

Music is home for me, and sharing it with my brother Chirag and my band Urja is where I feel most alive. I treat every collaboration as a musical conversation, whether we are jamming in a Mumbai studio or prepping for a live show across the country.
