This video shows the process of a couple's portrait. I start by completing one person first before moving to the next to ensure each is given full attention.

About Couple Portraits: Capturing Your Bond
I spend 40-45 hours on each piece to get the shading just right. The biggest secret to a great couple portrait is the reference photo. Send me a clear, high-resolution shot where faces are well-lit, and I will handle the rest. I can even merge two different photos into one frame if you do not have a joint picture, just make sure the expressions you choose reflect your bond.
My Approach to Couple Portraits
When I draw a couple, I am not just capturing a likeness. I am trying to translate the chemistry between you two onto paper. Because a couple's portrait needs more room for detail than a single face, I work exclusively on A3-sized heavy-duty paper (200 GSM). This gives me the space to work on the intricate textures—like jewelry, saree patterns, or beard stubble—that make a portrait look alive.
Can I Merge Photos?
Yes, absolutely. If you and your partner have different photos you love but no picture together, I can merge them into a single composition. The key is to provide me with reference photos of similar lighting and angles. If you send me photos with vastly different lighting, it becomes harder to blend them naturally.
The Process
- Reference Selection: Once you share your photos, I will tell you which ones will translate best into charcoal and graphite.
- The Sketch: I use a grid method for accurate proportions, followed by layers of shading using high-grade graphite pencils and compressed charcoal for those deep blacks.
- Fixing & Shipping: Every piece is coated with a matte fixative spray to prevent smudging. I pack the artwork in a rigid PVC tube to ensure it reaches you anywhere in India without a single crease.
What to Expect
This is slow art. I do not rush the process because I want the drawing to be a keepsake you will cherish for years. If you are planning this as a surprise for an anniversary or birthday, please reach out at least 10 days in advance so I can manage the timeline properly.
Vikash Tanti
Hi, I am Vikash. When I sit down to draw a couple, I am looking for the feeling between the two of you, not just the lines on their faces. I put my heart into every sketch, chasing those tiny details that make you look like you.
