The Philosophy of Connection: Understanding Tango in Bangalore
Tango is not just steps; it is a non-verbal conversation between partners. Learn to lead and follow with genuine connection, moving beyond gender roles.
Are roles in Tango dependent on gender? Absolutely not. Qualities like responsibility, strength, and initiative belong to a leader, not a man. In my classes, you will constantly switch roles, because the best way to learn is to walk in your partner's shoes.
About The Philosophy of Connection
In my sessions, we do not treat leading and following as fixed gender roles. You will constantly switch between both, because the best way to understand a leader’s responsibility is to spend time in the follower’s shoes. This approach builds a partnership based on equal contribution and active listening, moving far beyond just memorizing steps.
Tango as a Conversation
Many people approach dance as a series of rigid patterns. My method, the TangoShastra, rejects this. I view Tango as a baat-cheet or a conversation. Just as in a real dialogue, you cannot predict exactly what the other person will say. You must listen, process, and respond in real-time. This is why my mentorship focuses on internalizing the rhythm and understanding the logic of movement, rather than just repeating a sequence.
The Engineering Behind the Dance
Coming from an engineering background, I break down every movement into its mechanical components. We work on weight distribution, pivot physics, and the geometry of the embrace. When you understand the 'why' behind a movement, your body stops fighting the music. We focus on:
- Active Following: Learning to be present and responsive rather than passive.
- Intentional Leading: Understanding how to invite movement through clarity, not force.
- Posture Correction: Aligning the body for technical strength and authentic connection.
Moving Beyond Gender
In my Bangalore-based mentorship programs, you will not find the traditional 'bossy leader' versus 'passive follower' dynamic. That binary restricts the dance. By practicing both roles, you gain a holistic understanding of the dance floor. Whether you are preparing for a wedding, looking to improve your social dancing, or just seeking a new way to express yourself, my private sessions are designed to move at your pace. We meet in person across Koramangala and Indiranagar or connect via online modules for those who prefer remote learning.
