About Tango in the City: Flash Mobs
Dancing in front of a crowd at a place like UB City strips away the comfort of the studio. It forces you to really listen to your partner and the music, right there in the open, which is exactly how you learn to be an active follower. If you are curious about finding that same connection for yourself, my beginner workshops are the best place to start.
Why We Take Tango to the Streets
When I first started the Bangalore Tango Academy, I wanted to demystify the dance. Many people think Argentine Tango is just a performance you watch on TV, but it is actually a social dialogue. Taking our dance to public spaces through flash mobs is our way of showing that this connection is accessible to everyone, not just those with years of training.
The TangoShastra Method
Whether we are in a studio in Koramangala or performing a flash mob, the foundation remains the same: the TangoShastra method. I created this system to break down complex movements into scientific, logical steps. We focus on biomechanics—how your weight shifts, how the embrace (the 'abrazo') works, and how to lead or follow without saying a word. You do not need fancy shoes or a partner to start; you just need to be present.
