Foundational Flows and Group Yoga Classes
Build a steady foundation with our Hatha and Ashtanga group sessions. From mastering Surya Namaskar to safe prop usage, we guide you through every breath and transition.
The entire class moves through Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) together. This foundational sequence is the cornerstone of a vinyasa practice, and we break down each component in detail.
I lead the class through a Chandra Namaskar (Moon Salutation) flow. This sequence is designed to be calming and cooling, and we explore its unique benefits in the TTC.
Students practice Vrikshasana (Tree Pose), some using blocks for support. This shows how we accommodate all levels, focusing on stability and balance for everyone.
A student uses blocks to support his feet in Malasana (Garland Pose). This modification helps to open the hips safely and is a great example of foundational prop use.
A student practices a variation of pigeon pose, a fundamental hip opener. The beautiful studio background with large windows brings a sense of peace to the practice.
A student in a low lunge variation, focusing on opening the hip flexors and chest. We emphasize proper alignment in all foundational poses.
This student is in a deep lunge with a twist, a pose that builds strength and flexibility. Our classes incorporate a variety of foundational asanas.
I demonstrate a dynamic lunge sequence, showing how to flow with the breath. Understanding these transitions is key to teaching a vinyasa class.
A student practices Dhanurasana (Bow Pose), a foundational backbend that strengthens the back and opens the chest.
This video shows a student moving into Supta Virasana (Reclining Hero Pose), a deep stretch for the quadriceps and a great preparatory pose for backbends.
About Foundational Flows & Group Practice
You will notice we emphasize alignment over perfection. Whether we are practicing a simple lunge or a complex backbend, my team and I use props like blocks and straps to ensure your body feels supported, not strained. It is about learning the mechanics of the movement so you can practice safely, whether you are with us in the studio or on your own mat at home.
Our foundation is built on the core pillars of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga. Hatha helps you understand the stationary form and alignment of each asana, while Ashtanga brings that energy into a dynamic flow. You see this balance in our AECS Layout, Varthur, and Belathur studios daily.
Why Foundations Matter
Many people think yoga is just about flexibility, but it is actually about stability. We break down sequences like Surya Namaskar and Chandra Namaskar step-by-step. By focusing on the transitions and the breath, you learn how to control your energy rather than just forcing your body into a position.
The Role of Props
We use tools like yoga wheels, bamboo sticks, and blocks not as crutches, but as teachers. If you are struggling with a deep lunge or a backbend, a block helps you find the correct alignment without compromising your spine or knees. It allows you to feel the full benefit of the pose while your body is still building the necessary strength.
Our Community
Our group sessions are designed to be inclusive. It does not matter if you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner; the community at our centers is there to lift you up. We often hear from students that the energy of practicing together in a group makes the hard days of training easier to get through. If you are looking to start or deepen your practice, these classes are the best place to find your rhythm.
