Step inside our Kandivali and Borivali studios to see how we teach art. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique, we focus on the process, not just the final result.

Laughter, focus, and creativity fill our studio every day. This video captures the happy moments of our students as they knead, shape, and create with clay, showing that pottery is an art form for everyone to enjoy.

The joy of creating together. Our workshops are a great place to bond with friends and family while learning a new skill and getting your hands messy with clay.

This young artist proudly displays the pot she made using the coil method. This fundamental hand-building technique is one of the first things we teach to help students understand how to build forms with clay.

We love hosting school groups like these students from Gopal's Garden School. Here, an instructor engages with the children, answering their questions and giving them a hands-on introduction to the world of pottery.

A wide view of our studio during a workshop with Gopal's Garden School. The long tables provide ample space for students to sit together, learn, and create their own miniature clay articles in a group setting.

A group photo with the students from Gopal's Garden School after a fun-filled day of learning and creativity. It was a wholesome and joyful experience for them and for us.

Young students deeply focused on their creations. We provide a nurturing environment where children can explore their creativity and learn the basics of hand-building with clay.

A student in our sgraffito workshop carefully refines the surface of her pot. This process involves smoothing the clay with a sponge to prepare it for carving, ensuring a clean and beautiful final piece.

The look of intense focus. This student is meticulously carving lines into her hand-built mug, a project from her second day that already looks studio-worthy.

We are proud to welcome travelers from around the world to our academy. This student is immersing himself in Indian art by learning traditional pottery techniques, contributing to our mission of reviving our artistic glory.

About A Day at the Academy

When you walk into a session here, expect to get your hands messy immediately. We skip the theory-heavy lectures and get right to kneading the clay. You will learn how to prepare your own stoneware or terracotta, handle basic sculpting tools, and embrace the inevitable cracks as part of the process. Note that permanent firing charges are separate from the workshop fee, so plan to collect your kiln-fired pieces in about 45 days.

At ArtVilla Academy, a day in the studio is less about achieving instant perfection and more about understanding the medium. We operate out of our centers in Kandivali and Borivali, providing a space where school children, working professionals, and curious travelers sit at the same table to learn.

Our Process

We cover essential hand-building methods like pinching, coiling, and slab work. You might find yourself working on a textured mural, a functional mug, or exploring sgraffito techniques. For those interested in deeper learning, our figurative sculpting lessons focus on anatomy, form, and character details, which are ideal for students building a portfolio.

The Art of Mistakes

We believe that mistakes are learning opportunities. If a piece cracks or an angle feels wrong, we troubleshoot it together rather than tossing it away. This problem-solving approach is what helps students truly understand clay as a material.

Practical Details

  • Firing: Since we use an in-house kiln, we ensure your pieces are durable. Firing involves multiple stages and takes 40-45 days to complete.
  • Class Structure: Our sessions are kept in small batches of 6-10 students, ensuring you get personal attention from the instructors.
  • Experience Level: No prior experience is required. We start from scratch for every course, from beginner pottery workshops to advanced sculpture classes.

Whether you are looking for a weekend pottery class in Mumbai or a comprehensive sculpting course, we focus on the patience and passion required to master the craft.
