I turn your pet’s photos into realistic, hand-drawn portraits. Whether it’s a dog, cat, or any furry family member, I capture their unique spirit using graphite and charcoal.

About Pet Portraits
Fur texture is what makes a pet portrait look alive, and it takes hours of patient, individual pencil strokes to get that softness right. I usually spend 15 to 20 hours on a single pet sketch, focusing intensely on the eyes and the unique sheen of their coat to make sure the drawing captures their specific personality, not just their appearance.
My approach to pet portraits is simple. I do not use digital filters or quick fixes. Every sketch is a manual process that relies entirely on layers of graphite and charcoal. When I look at your pet's photo, I am looking for the things that make them unique—the specific glint in their eyes, the way their fur grows, or a particular expression they have when they are happy.
The Process
I start by analyzing the reference photo you provide. High-resolution images work best, but I can work with older photos if needed. I use high-quality 300gsm Ivory or Strathmore paper because it holds the heavy charcoal layers without warping. I start with light outlines and then build the depth using Staedtler pencils for shading and Camlin charcoal for those deep, rich blacks.
Why Graphite and Charcoal?
Black and white art has a timeless quality. It removes the distraction of color and forces the eye to focus on the form and emotion of the subject. For pet portraits, this is perfect. It highlights the texture of the fur and the soulful expression in their eyes in a way that color sometimes misses.
What to Expect
I am a perfectionist with details. A small portrait might take 8 hours, but larger, more complex pieces can take up to 75 hours of constant work. This is not mass-produced art. I seal every piece with a professional fixative spray to ensure it does not smudge or fade over time. When you receive your portrait, it comes framed and ready to be displayed. If you are looking for a gift or a memorial tribute, let me know. I put the same love into every pet portrait as I do when drawing my own family.
