About The Artistic Process: Safe, Sterile, and Hand-Painted
You might wonder about the blood collection, but the process is straightforward and safe. If you are in Bangalore, come to my Nelamangala studio for a quick, sterile draw. If you are outside the city, I guide you on how to courier a small 2ml sample. Either way, the process is clean, professional, and results in a lasting, sepia-toned portrait that starts as a bright crimson.
How I Create Your Portrait
Every piece starts with a conversation about your idea. Whether it is a portrait of your parents, a partner, or a sibling, the process is about creating a 'raktada kaanike' (gift of blood) that is deeply personal.
The Process:
- Collection: I use a small amount of blood (2ml for A4, 3ml for A3). In my studio, this is a quick, sterile, and professional draw. For out-of-station clients, I provide specific instructions on how to package and ship the sample securely.
- The Medium: Your blood is treated with an anticoagulant to keep it liquid for painting. It acts exactly like a traditional ink or watercolor, allowing for detailed line work and shading.
- The Transformation: Initially, the painting appears as a deep crimson. As it dries and reacts with the air, it naturally oxidizes into a permanent, warm sepia/rust tone. This is the organic nature of the medium—it evolves on the paper.
Safe & Professional I have been doing this since 2015. I handle every step with hygiene in mind. The blood is handled in a controlled environment, and the final artwork is treated with a fixative spray to protect it from humidity. You get a piece of art that is literally a part of you, framed and ready for your wall.
