Every portrait I paint uses a 2-3ml blood sample, mixed to ensure it sets as a permanent monochrome piece. Whether you visit my Nelamangala studio for a safe, sterile draw or courier a sample from anywhere in India, I ensure the process is hygienic and professional. It starts fresh and naturally oxidizes into a deep, lasting sepia tone—creating a unique, living keepsake that evolves over time.
I started AJ Tattoo Art in 2015, and while tattoos are my main work, these blood portraits have become a special part of what I do. People call it 'raktada kaanike'—a gift of blood—and it is one of the most personal things you can give a sibling, parent, or partner.
The Process
Safety is my priority. Whether you come to my studio or send a sample, I use sterile vials and gloves. If you are shipping from outside Bangalore, I guide you on the safe, small-volume collection needed. Once I have the sample, I paint on 200 GSM art paper, allowing it to dry into a distinct, natural rust-brown tone.
