Antarshaala: Structured Bharatanatyam Training in Bangalore
Our Antarshaala program at Upadhye School of Dance focuses on consistency. We combine rigorous in-person technique with digital study, designed to get you stage-ready.
A look inside our Antarshaala classes at the Upadhye School of Dance. We are announcing admissions for our August 2024 batch, a chance to begin your journey in Bharatanatyam with us.
We open admissions for Antarshaala, our regular classes at Upadhye School of Dance, for a limited time each year. This is an invitation to join our community of dedicated learners in Bangalore.
An evening class in progress at our school. Consistency and practice are key, and these regular sessions are where we build the foundation, one step at a time, starting with pieces like 'Siddhi Vinayakam'.
Our students practicing their adavus. These fundamental steps are the building blocks of Bharatanatyam, and we dedicate significant time in our classes to perfecting their form and posture.
Getting ready for a student performance in Hyderabad. These opportunities are an important part of our training, helping students build confidence and experience the joy of dancing for an audience.
A quiet moment of observation during a screening of 'P A D A M'. Learning is not just about dancing; it is also about watching, listening, and absorbing the art form in all its dimensions.
About this collection
These aren't drop-in sessions. We operate on a strict quarterly structure at our NRI Layout studio, and it requires commitment. We use a 'flipped classroom' model where you access video modules through our Swadhyaya portal before coming to class, so our weekly time together is spent on specific corrections and polishing, not just learning basic steps from scratch.
The Antarshaala program is designed for students who are serious about understanding the geometry of Bharatanatyam. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your technique, our curriculum at Upadhye School of Dance is built to be a marathon, not a sprint.
The Hybrid Approach
To make the most of our weekly in-person hours, we move away from traditional 'watch-and-copy' methods during the core training time. You will have 24/7 access to our Swadhyaya digital library. The expectation is that you review these detailed breakdowns of Adavus and compositions before your weekend class. This ensures that when we meet in the studio—equipped with shock-absorbent floors and full-length mirrors—we spend our time on posture correction, stamina, and the nuance of Abhinaya.
What to Expect
- Commitment: We run in quarterly terms. This helps us track your progress from the first day to the end of the term. Attendance and focus are non-negotiable for the group.
- Technique First: We drill Talam and precision constantly. My focus is on the Punyah style: strong lines, clean movements, and a deep understanding of the rhythm.
- Stage Readiness: Training here isn't just about class. We prepare students to perform, whether it is for small school showcases or larger platforms.
We open admissions for new batches only during specific windows in the year. If you are looking to join, check our current availability. This program is as much about the discipline of dance as it is about the art itself.
Adithya
I’m Adithya. For me, dance is a conversation, not just a series of steps. In these classes, I’m less of a boss and more of a guide, helping you find your rhythm and understand the 'why' behind every movement.
