Featured Bharatanatyam Performances and Collaborations
A look into the range of my practice, from intimate solo recitals to large-scale group productions with Punyah Dance Company, all brought to life through the rhythm of live music.
A moment of stillness from a recent solo concert at NCPA Mumbai. For me, every performance is a deep dive into the classical Bharatanatyam repertoire, connecting with the audience through pure dance.
The energy of dancing with my crew from Punyah Dance Company is unmatched. This is a moment from our production 'Abha', where we bring epic stories to life together on stage.
Dance is storytelling. This is an excerpt from Surdas’s Ramcharitavali, where I portray Rama's lament. It's in these expressive, or 'abhinaya', pieces that I feel the deepest connection to the characters and their stories.
A glimpse from the premiere of 'ATAH - connecting the dots', a duet I performed with Parshwanath Upadhye. Collaborative performances like this explore the dynamic synergy between two dancers, creating a unique narrative.
The Thillana is a piece filled with technicality and joy. This is from a performance of the Pahadi Thillana, where the rhythm of the live orchestra, from the mridangam to the flute, drives every step.
The connection with a live audience is everything. This was the view from the stage during my tour in Australia, a full house of art lovers. I am always grateful for such wonderful audiences.
Performing at the Kapaleeshwarar temple in Chennai was a special experience. Taking the dance back to sacred spaces, where it has lived for centuries, feels like a full circle.
A powerful moment from our group production 'Nagamandala'. The use of creative lighting and stagecraft helps us build a different world for the audience, making the mythological stories feel immediate and real.
A quick invitation to our new production, 'MAYA'. I believe in connecting directly with my audience, and I hope you can join us for our next show. Tappade banni, nodi, harasi.
Sometimes the stage is nature itself. Finding moments to connect with the art form outdoors, like here by the Elbow River in Calgary, is a refreshing part of my journey.
About Featured
When planning your event, consider whether you want a solo recital for classic, intimate storytelling or a full production for high-energy visual impact. Whether you need a 20-minute feature or a traditional 90-minute Margam, I work with a dedicated team of musicians to ensure the music and movement are perfectly synced to your venue's acoustics.
The Art of Storytelling
Bharatanatyam is more than just movement; it is a conversation between the dancer, the audience, and the orchestra. My performances span the complete traditional Margam, ideal for cultural festivals and formal gatherings, to fast-paced, high-energy snippets for corporate events or private functions. Each piece, whether it is a technical Thillana or an expressive Varnam, is crafted to connect.
Group and Solo Productions
Collaborating with Punyah Dance Company allows me to bring large-scale, visually spectacular productions to the stage. These pieces blend traditional grammar with modern stagecraft, making them perfect for audiences who appreciate a mix of classical discipline and contemporary presentation. For solo sets, I dive deep into mythological narratives, focusing on the character and the abhinaya (expression) to bring the story to life.
The Role of Live Music
I place heavy emphasis on audio quality, which is why I prefer working with live ensembles—mridangam, flute, vocalists—who make the performance feel alive. However, if your venue setup is better suited for it, I am equally comfortable performing to high-definition recorded tracks without losing the artistic intensity of the performance.
We can design the repertoire based on your event theme, ensuring the energy level matches the setting perfectly. Whether it is an intimate gathering or a large stage, my goal is to keep the performance honest and engaging.
Adithya
I am a dancer based in Bangalore, constantly looking for new ways to tell stories through movement. My work is a blend of the classical training I have received at Punyah Dance Company and the inspiration I find in travel and the people I meet along the way. I prefer to keep things real on stage—just honest abhinaya and rhythm.
