Our Approach to Authentic Yoga Practice
Yoga is not about performing for a camera or forcing your body into shapes that don't fit. It is about showing up and doing the work. Here is the philosophy that guides every session we lead.
Finding the right guide for your yoga journey is crucial. In this video, I share the three essential qualities to look for in a teacher: a focus on the student's growth, a balance of movement and stillness, and a deep respect for the tradition of yoga. Our teaching is built on these principles, ensuring an authentic and supportive experience.
About Our Teaching Philosophy
In my classes, you won't find me showing off complicated shapes that you're expected to mimic. My role is to observe how you move—whether you're in our Bengaluru studio or joining online—and adjust the practice so it actually serves your body. If you've ever felt lost in a big class or pressured to keep up, here, we slow down to make sure you know exactly how and why you are moving.
Teaching Principles
I believe a yoga teacher should hold the tradition at a higher pedestal than themselves. When you join a session at Absolute Yoga, the focus isn't on what I can do on the mat; it is entirely on your growth. We prioritize a balance of movement and stillness. While flow is fun, stillness and holding postures are where you build genuine strength in your muscles and joints, and where you develop true self-awareness.
The 'No-Frills' Practice
We don't do performative yoga. If a teacher breaks the flow of a class to force you into a pose just for a social media photo, that is a red flag. My goal is to make yoga adaptable for you, right where you are. We use props like blocks, straps, and chairs to ensure that lack of flexibility is never a barrier to entry.
What to Expect
Whether you are looking for Hatha, Vinyasa, or Prenatal sessions, our approach remains consistent:
- Small Batches: To give you real-time feedback and corrections.
- Lineage Respect: We honor the tradition while making it accessible for modern life.
- Consistency over Intensity: We value the discipline of showing up every day over the fleeting motivation of a 'perfect' workout.
Yoga isn't just a physical workout; it is a cleansing process. It can be hard, and it can bring up uncomfortable feelings. That is the tapasya, and my job is to guide you through it safely.
